On the morning of October 14, a representative of Vietnam Airlines said that the airline had recorded a data security incident related to the online customer care platform provided by a global technology corporation.
Accordingly, Vietnam Airlines is one of many businesses in the world using the services of this unit that were affected. Part of the customer data processed on this system may have been accessed illegally.
Immediately after receiving the warning, Vietnam Airlines promptly coordinated with authorities, cybersecurity experts and technology partners to investigate the incident, assess the scope of impact and strengthen data protection measures.
Up to now, Vietnam Airlines has confirmed that sensitive data such as credit cards, payment information, passwords, itineraries, passports and Lotusmiles account balances of customers are still securely protected. The airline's internal information technology systems are not affected.
Relevant customers will be notified by Vietnam Airlines and instructed on necessary support measures via email.
The airline recommends that customers be wary of fake forms, suspicious emails or calls impersonating Vietnam Airlines and not share personal information or OTP codes, and not log into unauthenticated systems.
Expressing apologies for this incident and any concerns it may have caused to customers, Vietnam Airlines will continue to update information and take all necessary measures to enhance data security and maintain passenger confidence./.
