Heartbroken young teacher in Hanoi passed away while cleaning house after flood

While cleaning up his house after the flood, teacher Nguyen Van Tuan (born in 1986, teacher at Soc Son High School, Hanoi) was unfortunately electrocuted and died. The sudden passing of the young teacher left many colleagues and students in grief.

Share with VietNamNet on the morning of October 13 , Ms. Nguyen Thi Dieu Thanh, Principal of Soc Son High School, could not hide her emotions while attending the funeral of her teacher. "Hearing the news of Mr. Tuan's sudden passing, our staff and teachers were all shocked and saddened. Mr. Tuan was a young, enthusiastic and capable teacher of the school. He was also loved by his students and colleagues," Ms. Thanh choked up.

Ms. Thanh said that Mr. Tuan is a Technology teacher, working at Soc Son High School from 2010 to present. His house is in Trung Gia commune, one of the areas most heavily affected by the recent flood in Hanoi.

“During the flood, the school had difficulty reaching the teacher. We texted and called him, but because his house had no electricity, we couldn’t contact him often. Yesterday afternoon, October 12, we received this heartbreaking news. Before the flood came, the teacher was digging the foundation to build a house. After digging the foundation, the flood came, and that area became like a pond. Yesterday, the water in the old house had all receded, and after cleaning the house, the teacher planned to pump the water out of the foundation so that the workers could come tomorrow. However, unfortunately, the pump leaked electricity and...”, Ms. Thanh said sadly.

Ms. Thanh said that since last night, after hearing the news, school staff and teachers also came to share, encourage and support the family in organizing the funeral for Mr. Tuan.

According to Ms. Thanh, this is a loss not only for the family, the school but also for the education sector. He is a key teacher of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training. In 2019, he won the second prize for excellent teachers in Hanoi city, and the title of "Excellent Reporter" of the armed forces of Soc Son district.

The principal said the funeral for the young teacher will take place at 7:30 a.m. this morning, October 13.

“Today, the school still organizes classes as usual. Late this afternoon, staff, teachers and some students representing the homeroom teacher’s class, along with their parents, came to pay their last respects to the teacher,” Ms. Thanh said.
