The 59-year-old man realized he had been cheated out of love and money after he transferred more than 270 million VND to his girlfriend as a dowry, but she disappeared before the wedding day.

Thanakrit (59 years old) from Bangkok, Thailand, met a young girl named Nong Fon (23 years old) through a dating app in December 2023.

Fon introduced himself as a final-year nursing student. They chatted on social media and on Valentine's Day 2024, Fon confessed his feelings to Thanakrit, Thaiger reported on November 21.

They met in person and fell in love. The couple had a happy time, traveling to many places together. During that time, Thanakrit paid for all the expenses and bought Fon a new phone.

In April 2024, Thanakrit returned to meet Fon's family in Surin province, Thailand. After that, the relationship between the two became more serious. They planned to hold a wedding on July 14.

Fon's family requested a dowry of 500,000 baht (over 368 million VND). Thanakrit agreed and pledged to transfer 372,000 baht (over 273 million VND) in advance, the rest would be given on the wedding day.

Thanakrit felt a little suspicious when he discovered that the bank account Fon asked him to transfer money to was the account of the nursing school she was attending, not her personal account.

Nevertheless, he still trusted Fon and transferred the dowry as requested. They rented a wedding dress and planned for the big day.

However, things suddenly fell apart when Thanakrit noticed a change in Fon. She often dressed revealingly and chatted with other men on social media. They argued and Thanakrit decided to tell everything to Fon's family, making her angry.

In the end, Fon left, canceling the wedding. Thanakrit asked her to return the dowry but she refused. Only then did he realize he had been tricked.

In fact, Fon only took advantage of his love and trust to get money to cover living expenses and pay for school fees. Thanakrit asked for help from the police and the non-profit organization Saimai Survive in the hope of getting his money back.
