At 77 years old I still have to learn to sing, learn from young singers.

"Singing is an art and has trends. You can sing well and sing well, but if you don't study, your singing will sound old-fashioned and out of date," singer Tuan Ngoc confided.

The only thing I don't like is having to sing with 3 young and handsome junior singers, and standing with me. I don't like it. I feel pressured, those guys are so handsome, and have good voices, so I feel pressured.

Having said that, I think I am a lucky artist, through all the ages still being able to appear on stage, to sing and have my own audience. Although not many, they still give me the strength to sing until this age," the artist confided.

Commenting on the 3 artists who sang together in the performance, Tuan Ngoc said that they all have the best voices in Vietnam right now. Each person has their own way of singing.

"At the age of 77, I still have to learn to sing, learn from young singers. Singing is an art and has trends. You can sing well, sing correctly, but if you don't learn, your singing will sound old, out of date, and out of fashion. It's like a shirt, no matter how beautiful it is, but if it looks too old, no one will wear it. That's art.

Therefore, singers must be progressive and follow the music. I know the three young singers who sing with me are all very good, but I still advise you to try to improve and learn. Reaching the top is difficult, staying at the top is even more difficult. I just talked to Lan Nha about that," Tuan Ngoc confided.

Responding to the opinion that Lan Nha sings too much like himself, Tuan Ngoc confided: "I am not surprised by this. Mr. Beethoven also said, there is nothing new under the sunlight, only the arrangement of musical notes is new.

All artists are influenced by their predecessors, whether they want to or not. They may imitate like parrots at first, like when learning to walk and talk. But after they learn to walk, they have to follow their own path.

The most important stage for an artist is to know how to put aside the influence of predecessors to find their own path and have their own creativity. This stage is very difficult and proves the courage of the artist," the famous singer confided.

I used to apply to sing but no one accepted me.

When asked about the image of a famous singer Tuan Ngoc who often stands on stage with an elegant, gentlemanly, luxurious style, the singer said he expresses everything naturally.

Tuan Ngoc is considered the best singer in Vietnam's modern music scene through his profound lyrical songs.

He likes beautiful things, so he should always be conscious of learning and choosing what is suitable for himself.

"I've always been fond of the saying: 'Know yourself, know your enemy, and you can fight a hundred battles with no danger of defeat'. You have to know what's good and suitable for you, and everything will naturally become easy, from how you dress to how you choose songs. For example, there's a very popular song, but if it's not suitable, no matter how much money you give me, I won't sing it," Tuan Ngoc said.

Recalling the opportunity to become a singer, the famous singer said that his father was originally from Nam Dinh , his mother was originally from Hai Phong, but both moved to Da Lat to live in 1942. He was also born here.

Born and raised in a small city, but his mother really wanted her children to become singers, so when he was 5 years old and his sister was 10 years old, she supported them to sing.

"My mother liked it very much. After that, she thought that if you want to develop and become famous, you have to go to big cities. So, my family decided to move to Saigon. When I was 17, I started singing professionally.

Of course, there are always difficulties at the beginning. At first, I applied to sing but no one accepted me. When I was accepted, it was only as a "filler" position, and I could only sing if the singer was late. If the singer arrived on time, I didn't have to sing that night.

My life has gone through all the emotions from having nothing to being known by the audience. It's very interesting," Tuan Ngoc said.

"Singing is difficult"

Sharing more about his voice and current health, Tuan Ngoc said he still learns to sing every day. The singer believes that "maintaining your voice is a step backwards".

"Singing is vast, the more I practice and sing, the more I realize I know nothing, only then will I know how to appreciate the audience," the male singer expressed.

Regarding the way he handles the song, Tuan Ngoc himself also sees a change in himself.

"I sing a lot of American music. American music places a lot of emphasis on rhythm. When I was young, I only paid attention to the music, sang however I wanted, ignored the rhythm a lot, and could drop any word I wanted, without following the rhythm. Americans listen to the way the singer sings to know the singer's level.

That means when singing, you have to put the words you sing in rhythm. In the past, I just sang straight out, but now I pay attention to putting the notes I sing in the right rhythm and music.

However, if you pay too much attention to technique, you will lose the feeling. You have to know how to balance both. Singing is very difficult.

I am not a singer and I praise people who can sing, but the truth is that singing is very difficult. The throat is an instrument, like a guitar, it wears out over time but cannot be replaced with a new one.

Therefore, when singing, you have to know how to choose the right instrument to sing. You can't sing the way you sang when you were young when you're old because your throat is worn out and you can't sing like when you were young. If you listen to my old records, you'll see that I don't sing like I used to. I have to practice to sing better," Tuan Ngoc confided.

To make that change, he believes that singing is an art. "People say that fighting without any moves can win with moves, meaning that it seems like there are no moves but it is very artistic. Singing in a way that makes people see your technique and effort is a failure, for me it is like that. You have to sing in a way that makes people see it as normal but in reality it is very difficult.

In general, I still feel happy and lucky because learning is fun and enjoyable. I still have a way to learn, I can still learn thanks to the audience. If there were no audience, where would I get to learn? I can both work and study, study and practice regularly," the famous singer confided.
