Within just one month, Ha Tinh was hit by two major storms, causing devastation to hundreds of schools. Roofs were blown away, walls collapsed, classrooms were damaged, and many places were submerged in floodwaters.

After storm No. 10, staff and teachers of Thanh Loc Kindergarten (Gia Hanh commune, Ha Tinh) were present at the school to urgently clean up and overcome the consequences. The school was severely damaged, the roof system was blown away, and the power source was destroyed.

Ms. Tran Thi Hoai, Vice Principal of Thanh Loc Kindergarten, said that before the storm, the school mobilized parents and staff to reinforce the roof and used sand to secure the corrugated iron roofs to limit damage. However, due to the strength of the storm, the school was still severely affected.

At Thanh Loc Kindergarten, all classrooms had their roofs blown off, more than 900 square meters of roof were blown away, causing an estimated damage of over 1 billion VND. "The school and local authorities are working hard to overcome the consequences to welcome children back soon," said Ms. Tran Thi Hoai, Vice Principal.

In the old town of Ky Anh, some schools were damaged by the storm, desks, chairs and blackboards were swept away.

Mr. Nguyen Van Lam, Principal of Ky Thinh Primary School (Vung Ang Ward), said that in addition to the entire classroom block, 8 teachers' offices were also swept away; desks, chairs, and blackboards were blown out into the fields by the wind; and the student parking lot was knocked over. The entire school was devastated and it is currently unknown when it will be able to resume teaching activities.

Storm No. 10 also caused many schools in Vu Quang, Nghi Xuan, and Huong Son (old) districts to be completely submerged by floodwaters.

Speaking to VietNamNet, the leader of the Ha Tinh Department of Education and Training said that due to the impact of storm No. 10, as of September 30, there are still 143 educational establishments focusing on overcoming the consequences of storms and floods. Students in these localities are off school to ensure safety. The Department will soon have an official announcement on the time students return to school.

According to a report by the Department of Education and Training of Ha Tinh, storm No. 10 caused severe damage to 418 educational establishments in the area, with total estimated damage reaching more than 457.7 billion VND.

“The Department of Education and Training of Ha Tinh has directed units to closely monitor the development of floods and rains, promptly notify staff, teachers and students to proactively take precautions. 24/7 on-duty forces are arranged to preserve facilities and ensure timely communication and reporting. At the same time, coordinate repairs and overcome damages to soon stabilize teaching and learning,” informed a representative of the Department of Education and Training of Ha Tinh.
