Beckham could play a big role in the UAE owner's plan to buy MU. |
According to Goal , the group of investors is preparing to send an offer to the Glazer family to buy a majority stake in the club. If the deal is successful, Beckham will not only play the role of image ambassador but also be given the opportunity to own a part of the team - a symbolic turning point for the person who was the soul of the "Class of '92" generation.
The 49-year-old former midfielder, who is currently co-owner of Inter Miami (MLS) and Salford City, has publicly criticized the Glazer owners for their lack of vision in management: "As a fan and former player, I just hope everything is resolved soon. MU needs passionate, responsible leaders who know how to invest in the right places, from the training ground, stadium to the player force."
Beckham even frankly said that "it's time for the Glazers to leave", because once they lose the trust of the fans, it's very difficult to regain it. Sources said that in case Beckham refused the invitation, two other legends Eric Cantona and Wayne Rooney were also on the list of people being considered to represent the deal.
MU's current market value is around 2 billion pounds, but the Glazers are said to only sell if they receive at least 5 billion pounds. Notably, if the American owners agree to sell all of their shares, Sir Jim Ratcliffe may be forced to divest, paving the way for a complete change of ownership.
Beckham's appearance at Old Trafford - even if only as a symbol - would be a powerful spiritual tonic for fans fed up with the team's dark years under the Glazer dynasty.
