In the very first week after taking over the mission at the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in South Sudan, Vietnam's Level 2 Field Hospital No. 7 made an important mark: successfully performing the first emergency surgery on a soldier of the Ghanaian force.
The patient was admitted at 10:00 p.m. with severe abdominal pain, high fever, and risk of appendicitis rupture.
Doctor Dinh Vu Ngoc Linh, Deputy Director of Level 2 Field Hospital No. 7: “We received the Ghanaian patient at 10 p.m. After examination and ultrasound, it was determined that the patient had acute appendicitis, with signs of impending rupture. The team urgently consulted, reported to the Mission's medical commander and activated the emergency surgical procedure according to United Nations standards.”
The success of the surgery is of special significance, as the Level 2 Field Hospital No. 7 has just taken over the area under difficult conditions. In just the first week of deployment, the hospital has examined and treated 36 patients, including 18 emergency cases, demonstrating the quick adaptability, sense of responsibility and solid professional qualifications of the Vietnamese military medical team./.
