This is a special combination of two icons of classical music – Frédéric Chopin's Piano Concerto and Edward Elgar's Cello Concerto – which will resound in the luxurious space of The Global City, Thu Duc at 4 p.m. on July 27 with the participation of leading artists: pianist Nguyen Bich Tra, cellist Phan Do Phuc, conductor Tran Nhat Minh and the Saigon Festival Orchestra.

This event is a Gala Concert night within the series of activities of the Grand Opus Performing Competition 2025 - a large-scale art event that is increasingly affirming its position in Vietnam.

Unique meeting

It is no surprise that these two concerto masterpieces were chosen as the centerpiece of a major music night. If the Chopin Piano Concerto is a space of romance, lyricism and brilliant technique, the Elgar Cello Concerto is imbued with an introspective, post-World War I British quality – a piece of music of remembrance, of deep sadness but full of humanity.
Chopin wrote the Concerto No. 1 when he was only 20 years old – a passionate, fiery and pure musical confession. Elgar wrote the Concerto at the end of his life, at the age of 62 – as a musical legacy rich in experience and emotion.

Those two extremes will coexist on one stage, in one night, through two very different but equally refined musical instruments: Nguyen Bich Tra and Phan Do Phuc.

Artists – kindred spirits.

Phan Do Phuc, cellist

Bich Tra, a pianist with a distinguished international career, is one of the few Vietnamese to have recorded the complete piano works of the British composer Ernesto Halffter for Deutsche Grammophon. This time, she returns to her homeland, bringing Chopin to the Vietnamese stage in an open, modern space, but still retaining the necessary classical elegance. She is the daughter of People's Artist Tra Giang.

Artist Bich Tra

Phan Do Phuc, a cellist trained in Germany and the United States, is a familiar face to Vietnamese classical music lovers. His cello always exudes depth and richness – a perfect choice for Elgar.

With his experience, Phan Do Phuc not simply plays music, but tells Elgar's story as an audio memoir.

Accompanying them is conductor Tran Nhat Minh, a veteran in the field of musicals and symphonies in Vietnam.

Tran Nhat Minh is not only the one who connects the artists, but also the spiritual "architect" for the entire concert night. Under his command, the Saigon Festival Orchestra - a young, enthusiastic and increasingly professional group - will bring depth to the harmony, supporting and honoring the two solo instruments.

Classy space – connecting art and new urban areas

Organizing a music night at The Global City's Sales Gallery is not simply choosing a performance venue, but also a way to bring classical music out of traditional theaters and into modern urban life.

Amidst the light, architecture and landscape of a model urban area, audiences will have the opportunity to experience music in a different way – more intimate, open and connected.

A night of music is not just for listening – but for living in the music

For those who love classical music, this is an event not to be missed. But for those who are not familiar with it, this Gala night is an opportunity to step into the world of Chopin and Elgar – a world without language barriers, only emotions and empathy.
