On the afternoon of September 30, at the HCM City Hat Boi Art Theater, the play "Hien Than", a new composition by Le Cong Phuong, was reviewed with the direction of three young directors Thanh Binh, Ngoc Giau, and Bao Chau. This is a group of young directors that People's Artist Tran Ngoc Giau has devoted all his efforts to taking care of, passing on his profession, creating an opportunity for all three to jointly direct a Vietnamese historical script.

The script "The Wise God" by author: Le Cong Phuong, through the youthful staging of three directors: Thanh Binh, Ngoc Giau, Bao Chau, with music performed by Meritorious Artist Hua Hoang Kha and the orchestra of the HCM City Hat Boi Art Theater, created many emotions, delving into the feelings of historical figures.
The performances apply attractive dance and martial arts in the opera "Hien Than"
The play is directed by Artistic Advisor - General Director People's Artist Tran Ngoc Giau; Artistic Director is Meritorious Artist Nguyen Hoang Vinh. This is considered a passionate debut work of the young directors of the Theater in this year's Theater Anniversary season.
Director and People's Artist Tran Ngoc Giau believes that if he does not invest in passing on his skills to young people, it will be difficult to have a team of directors to inherit the traditional stage. He is aiming to build a Young Director's Club under the Ho Chi Minh City Theatre Association, where many directors of opera, drama, reformed opera, circus, puppetry, etc. will gather to learn the profession and experience, and find new forms of staging for the stage.
With a youthful and attractive staging style, the play "Hien Than" creates a highlight for the HCM City Hat Boi Art Theater during this year's Theater Ancestor Commemoration season.
"If we don't change and don't accept new perspectives and contemporary thinking from young people, the stage will forever be outdated. Therefore, I focus on listening to the voices of young directors and accepting new forms in their staging.
The HCM City Hat Boi Art Theater has a number of young directors who will also follow this model, continue to choose good scripts, and jump into staging with new methods. I will directly guide them as a career transfer between two generations" - People's Artist Tran Ngoc Giau shared after the performance of the play "Hien Than".
Emotional narrative performances by actors in the opera "Hien Than"
Tran Ngoc Giau focuses on the transformation of actors
The cast of the play is made up of skilled actors, of which 2/3 are young actors portraying Vietnamese historical characters including: Nguyen Cuu Dam (Artist Ha Tri Nhon), Mac Lan Huong (Artist Chau Thanh Mong), Mac Thien Tu (Artist Dong Ho), Tran Phuoc Thanh (Artist Thanh Binh), Nguyen Phuoc Duc (Artist Hoang Duy), Nguyen Phuc Thuan - Lord Nguyen (Artist Hoang Ha), Truong Phuc Loan (Artist Khong Minh Khuong), Nguyen Mau (artist Nha Thanh), General Guard (artist Thai Dien), General Siam (artist Bao Chau)... and artists of Hat Boi Art Theater participated in the performance.
"I respect the three young directors, let them handle the space and situations, then cut it down, choose each director's strengths to promote in the final edit. That is the way to clearly see each director's direction. The most important thing is to focus on exploiting the character's psychology and the actor's transformation when portraying the role of a historical hero on the Hat Boi stage" - People's Artist Tran Ngoc Giau shared.
The play "Hien Than" promises to leave an impression on audiences who love the art of hát bội in Ho Chi Minh City.
Nguyen Cuu Dam – Strategic vision and Luy Ban Bich
One of the central historical characters in the play "The Wise Man" is the famous general Nguyen Cuu Dam, who made great contributions in protecting Gia Dinh land and planning Saigon. In 1772, in the context of the Siamese army invading Ha Tien and Nam Vang, Nguyen Cuu Dam was appointed as the Imperial Envoy to command the battle, bringing 10,000 troops and 30 warships to repel the Siamese army, helping King Chan Lap Nac Ton restore the throne.
After the victory, he ordered his troops to withdraw to Gia Dinh and built Luy Ban Bich - a great defensive structure more than 8.5 km long, surrounding Saigon like a strategic arc, connecting the two ends of Ben Nghe and Thi Nghe canals.

Besides its historical value, the staging of the play "The Wise God" also has profound professional significance when People's Artist Tran Ngoc Giau, in the role of General Director and Artistic Advisor, directly guided and passed on his skills to three young directors.
He guides them from how to exploit historical documents, process scripts to how to stage the language of the Hat Boi stage. He helps the young generation confidently take on Vietnamese historical themes, renewing traditional theater with modern thinking while still preserving the traditional spirit.
