Spending billions more to build a field, Dong Thap University 'plays big' to host student tournament

The Board of Directors of Dong Thap University has gone one step further, investing billions to upgrade the field more comprehensively to be ready to host the Vietnam Youth Student Football Tournament.

Three months after successfully organizing the Dong Thap University Cup 2025 Student Football Tournament, the Board of Directors of Dong Thap University "continued to continue the momentum" by deciding to comprehensively upgrade the football field to create a new, more vibrant and professional appearance. This is to meet the requirements of being able to host not only the regional qualifying round but also to be able to apply to organize the final round or the international Vietnamese Youth Student Tournament to further promote the school sports movement.

The Board of Directors and the entire Dong Thap University team are ready for the Ministry of Education and Training's student tournament and the Vietnam student football tournament.

Specifically, the school has invested several billion VND to expand the artificial turf field from 88 x 60m to 94 x 64m, according to the standard framework of the field that can organize tournaments as required by the Vietnam Football Federation. The board of directors has "sacrificed" a part of the agricultural practice area located opposite the A stand and behind the goal to extend the width and length of the field. With this expansion, the field looks much more airy and modern.

Next is to add more functional rooms with full functions and scale. VIP reception room for opening and closing ceremonies, room for the Organizing Committee and room for the press. In addition to 2 standard changing rooms for the teams and the referee, security, medical and traditional glass cabinet rooms before, having new spacious and neat rooms really brings the image of a professional football club, not just of Dong Thap University.

But the most impressive is the LED screen of more than 300 inches, invested hundreds of millions of dong, placed right in the middle opposite the A stand, displaying information, images, videos with high brightness, sharpness, creating an extremely lively space. With this specially designed flat screen, it can withstand harsh weather conditions, not only plays the role of reporting scores, reporting match times, but importantly, it can be used to broadcast images of very high quality and clarity.

In addition, the lighting system worth several billion VND was also moved, columns were added, positions were rearranged appropriately and bulbs were added to ensure the brightness met the standards of a national and international tournament. Perhaps Dong Thap University is the first unit that is not a professional club to have an LED screen and a lighting system with very good brightness for football matches. This is also the pioneer unit in the school sector to quickly apply technology to sports.

Associate Professor, Dr. Ho Van Thong, Principal of Dong Thap University said: "With the aim of strongly developing sports in schools, especially football, which is a sport loved by many people, we decided to upgrade the field in stages. After completing items such as LED screens, function rooms, lighting systems, and soon after organizing the qualifying round of the Southwest region of the Ministry of Education and Training tournament (from October 17 to October 26), the school will expand stand A, make field stands C, D with many suitable seats for students to watch behind the goal.

As for stand B, we will study further because the field is currently close to the agricultural practice area. Hopefully, when the stands are built, the Dong Thap University campus will be magnificent. We are confident and ready to host the qualifying round of the Vietnam Youth Student Football Tournament in the Southwest region in January 2026, as well as other tournaments organized by Thanh Nien newspaper for domestic and international students in the future."
