The provincial Agricultural Extension Center has just handed over 30kg of local longan seeds to Vu Quang National Park. This activity is within the framework of the "seed bomb" program of the Ha Tinh Department of Agriculture and Environment.

Intercropping longan trees in forests not only increases coverage, but also opens up a direction for agroforestry development, creating sustainable livelihoods for people in the buffer zone. According to the plan, the “seed bomb” solution will be deployed by natural sowing or using drones in specific areas.

The Provincial Agricultural Extension Center organized the handover of 30kg of local longan seeds to Vu Quang National Park.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Ngoc - Director of Ha Tinh Agricultural Extension Center said: “The "seed bomb" solution allows us to quickly and effectively plant forests in poor forest areas, bare hills, especially in areas that are difficult to access. This method disperses forest tree and fruit tree seeds with a high survival rate, contributing to the restoration and sustainable increase of forest cover density. At the same time, the center is also coordinating with units and localities to implement the project "Developing the multi-use value of forest ecosystems", aiming to change the forest management mindset towards multi-benefits - exploiting non-timber potential such as: building models of growing medicinal herbs under the forest canopy, eco-tourism, orienting the development of non-timber products with high economic value, creating stable livelihoods for local people".

1,000 seeds after collection were incubated and monitored for growth, serving as a basis for planting in the coming time.

In addition to receiving seeds from the Agricultural Extension Center, Vu Quang National Park also proactively implemented many activities to implement the "seed bomb" solution to restore and enrich the forest.

Mr. Nguyen Danh Ky - Director of Vu Quang National Park said: "The unit is managing more than 57,000 hectares of forest land, including special-use forests, protective forests and production forests. Immediately after grasping the policy, the unit widely disseminated it to all cadres, civil servants, and workers and launched a movement to collect seeds of native trees and fruit trees with economic and ecological value. This is also a practical content in the emulation movement to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the tradition of the Agriculture and Environment sector. Up to now, 1,000 seeds have been selected, incubated and monitored for growth, as a basis for planting in the coming time. In addition, the unit has developed a communication plan, coordinated with schools in the area to spread the meaning, raise awareness of students and the community about forest and environmental protection".

Vu Quang National Park currently manages more than 57,000 hectares of forest land, including special-use forests, protection forests and production forests, with a rich and diverse ecosystem.

Currently, the Management Board of Ke Go Nature Reserve (KBTTN) is also actively responding to the "seed bomb" movement. Implementing the direction of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the unit has issued a plan to launch a seed collection movement in 2025. Accordingly, priority seeds for collection include seeds of easily regenerated forest trees (priority given to native trees such as mahogany, tau, mo...) and seeds of valuable fruit trees (longan, jackfruit, mango, avocado, tea,...) suitable for the natural conditions in Ke Go Nature Reserve.

Ke Go Nature Reserve Management Board staff spread seeds in pre-determined areas.

Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung - Director of Ke Go Nature Reserve Management Board said: "To implement the plan, each officer, civil servant and worker must collect at least 1 - 2 kg of seeds. These seeds are selected, cleaned and preserved to avoid fungus, mold and damage; classified by tree groups, and spread evenly over special-use forest areas (except for strictly protected areas), protective forests and production forests. In particular, the areas around forest protection stations and the Li-bi temple area prioritize planting fruit trees and trees of high economic value."

Currently, the units have actively collected, processed and sown native seeds, and received seeds from officials, civil servants, students and the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center,...

“Seed bombs” are a simple method that contributes to the restoration, regeneration and enrichment of forests, thereby promoting biodiversity and developing sustainable forest ecosystems. Not only does it have ecological significance, the movement also has a strong social impact, implemented on a voluntary basis, creating opportunities for officials, civil servants, students and the community to participate in forest protection. Through that, it raises people’s awareness and sense of responsibility for sustainable forest development.

Up to now, the whole province has had 8 state forest owners proactively develop implementation plans, with a total area of 202.7 hectares. The units have actively collected, processed and sown native seeds, and at the same time received seeds from officials, civil servants, students and the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center, forming a practical socialization movement in forest protection and development.

Ha Tinh also focuses on building medicinal plant growing models under forest canopy, orienting the development of non-timber products with high economic value, creating stable livelihoods for local people.

Mr. Le Huu Tuan - Head of Forest Protection and Development Department (Ha Tinh Forest Protection Department) said: "Implementing "seed bombs" is a sustainable, long-term, cost-saving solution, mobilizing all social resources in sustainable forest development. In the coming time, the Department of Agriculture and Environment will work with forest owners, localities, departments, branches and mass organizations to mobilize union members and students to collect fruit tree seeds to distribute to forest owners, management boards of protective forests, special-use forests, etc.; direct forest owners to include them in the annual plan for implementation. At the same time, regularly evaluate the effectiveness and applicability of this solution."
