Previously, Ms. NLT (47 years old) was hospitalized with lower abdominal pain lasting for 3 months, accompanied by a weight loss of 8 kg within 5 months. Through examination and imaging diagnosis, doctors discovered a large tumor occupying almost the entire lower abdomen, making the patient look like she was pregnant with twins in the last month.

Assessing this as a major and complicated surgery, the team held an interdisciplinary consultation, prepared carefully and performed the surgery using the open surgery method. After nearly 1 hour of surgery, the tumor, which was more than 30 cm long and weighed about 8 kg, was removed intact by the doctors, ensuring the patient's safety.
Pathology results determined this was a uterine leiomyoma (uterine fibroid), a benign tumor commonly found in women of reproductive age.
Dr. Tram Quang Huy, Deputy Head of the Department of Mammology and Gastroenterology, Can Tho Oncology Hospital, said that uterine fibroids are benign but can develop silently for many years without the patient realizing it. Therefore, women should take the initiative to have regular gynecological examinations to detect abnormalities early and avoid serious complications.
