Images of Trang Viet red grapefruit 'for the king' attract customers to play on the occasion of Tet At Ty: The red grapefruit variety of Dong Cao village is also known as Gac grapefruit or King grapefruit. In recent years, red grapefruit has often been chosen by consumers to buy as gifts and to display on the five-fruit tray during Tet. Grapefruit is red from skin to flesh, harvested at the end of the year, coinciding with Lunar New Year, so it is popular with consumers, always has a high price and not enough to sell.
'To grow a red grapefruit tree until harvest, it must go through many stages. Normally, it takes about 3 years for the grapefruit to bear fruit,' said Mr. Luong Van Phuong, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Dong Cao Red Grapefruit Cooperative.
During the process of caring for red grapefruit, each fruit must be wrapped in paper to limit insect attacks and damage, ensuring quality according to VietGAP standards. The grapefruit gardens here are almost all booked, around December 20-25, the grapefruit will be cut and shipped to consumers by traders. For unshaped grapefruits, the price will range from 200,000 - 250,000 VND/fruit, while shaped grapefruits will cost around 500,000 VND/fruit.
