That is the location on the sea route of trade between the Pacific Ocean and the Indian Ocean. In the past, sea ships were small, Ho Chi Minh City was a port that could receive all kinds of sea ships. Nowadays, sea transport ships are much larger in size, requiring a deep-water port to receive large ships. The chosen international deep-water port is Cai Mep - Thi Vai. Merging with Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Ho Chi Minh City now has an additional 350 km of sea route with Can Gio being the only adjacent area to Cai Mep - Thi Vai deep-water port.
