Recently, the prestigious British newspaper Guardian has announced a list of the 60 best young talents in the world at the present time. Among them, Vietnamese football has a player honored, striker Tran Gia Bao of Hoang Anh Gia Lai Club.

The Guardian praised Gia Bao's talent: "The versatile striker made a strong impression and won over fans with his handsome appearance. Gia Bao was compared to Lamine Yamal by V-League fans. He is playing in V-League and became the center of attention in September and was described by former striker Quang Hai as being at European level."

Gia Bao became the youngest player to ever play and score in V-League 1 (2024/25 season) at the age of 16, a historic milestone in Vietnamese football.

Before that, this versatile attacking player quickly attracted attention thanks to his technical playing style, flexible movement ability and confident demeanor on the field. Not only outstanding at a young age, Gia Bao continued to assert himself through domestic tournaments with daring moves and beautiful goals.

Most recently, Gia Bao was also a member of the Vietnam U17 team participating in the 2025 U17 Asian Cup and made his mark with a goal in the 1-1 draw with strong opponent Japan U17. Previously, Gia Bao also impressed in the Vietnam U16 shirt when he and the team won 3-0 against Uzbekistan U16 and won 1-0 against Japan U17 at the 2024 U16 CFA Team China Cup held in China.

Before Gia Bao, two Vietnamese players, Phan Thanh Hau and Le Dinh Long Vu, were listed in the Guardian’s list of the world’s top 60 young talents. However, both players were unable to develop their careers as expected.

Indonesian newspaper Viva warned: “Being included in the Guardian list of the 60 most promising young talents in the world in 2025 is certainly a great honor for Gia Bao. However, this could put pressure on the young player born in 2008, as he will receive more attention in the future.

Previously, two other young Vietnamese talents, Phan Thanh Hau and Le Dinh Long Vu, also received similar honors. While Phan Thanh Hau did not develop as expected, Long Vu also stagnated in the Song Lam Nghe An shirt. Therefore, the Guardian's praise is really a double-edged sword for Gia Bao.
