Previously, the iPhone Air was delayed in the Chinese market. The reason is that this smartphone only uses eSIM and is not equipped with a physical SIM slot. Meanwhile, the Chinese government has strict regulations for devices that only support eSIM.

Carriers and smartphone makers that want to offer eSIMs or phones without a physical SIM slot in this market must have special government licenses. Now, Apple and carriers in China have all the necessary licenses to sell the iPhone Air.

CEO Tim Cook personally traveled to China to prepare for the sale of the iPhone Air in the country, showing that China is still a very important market for Apple.

China's smartphone market fell 3% year-on-year in the third quarter, with Vivo taking the lead with an 18% market share. Huawei and Apple had 16% and 15% market shares, respectively, followed by Xiaomi and OPPO.

The iPhone Air will start at 7,999 yuan (equivalent to 29.5 million VND) in the Chinese market. During his visit, CEO Tim Cook also appeared in an Apple online sales livestream on the social networking platform Douyin (the Chinese version of TikTok).
