Pursuant to the direction of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, the Minister of Home Affairs hereby notifies administrative agencies, public service agencies, political organizations, socio-political organizations, enterprises and other employers of the Lunar New Year and National Day holidays in 2026.

Specifically, cadres, civil servants, public employees and workers of administrative agencies, public service agencies, political organizations, and socio-political organizations will have 5 days off for the 2026 Lunar New Year according to regulations, including 1 day before Tet and 4 days after Tet.
Thus, the official Tet holiday starts from Monday, February 16, 2026 (ie December 29, year of At Ty) to Friday, February 20, 2026 (ie January 4, year of Binh Ngo).
Along with the 5 days off for Tet, civil servants and public employees get 4 consecutive days off every week. Public sector agencies have 9 consecutive days off.
The Ministry of Home Affairs said that agencies and units implementing the Lunar New Year and National Day holidays in 2026 must arrange and organize on-duty departments according to regulations and work reasonably to handle work continuously, ensuring good service to organizations and people.
In particular, the Ministry noted to assign officers and civil servants to be on duty to handle sudden and unexpected tasks that may occur during holidays and Tet according to regulations.
Ministries, agencies and localities have specific and appropriate plans and measures to encourage units, enterprises, organizations and individuals to actively and proactively implement measures to develop production, business, and economic and social activities.
This content aims to ensure supply and demand of goods and services, stabilize prices and markets, contribute to promoting economic growth, practice thrift, and combat waste before, during, and after the Lunar New Year and National Day holidays in 2026.
Agencies and units that do not have a fixed weekly Saturday and Sunday off schedule must arrange a suitable holiday schedule based on the specific program and plan of the unit, in accordance with the provisions of law.
For employees and employers in the non-public sector, the unit decides to choose the Lunar New Year holiday plan as follows: Choose to take 1 day off at the end of the year of At Ty and the first 4 days of the year of Binh Ngo or 2 days off at the end of the year of At Ty and the first 3 days of the year of Binh Ngo or 3 days off at the end of the year of At Ty and the first 2 days of the year of Binh Ngo.
Units must notify employees of the 2026 Tet holiday plan at least 30 days before implementation.
If the weekly day off coincides with a public holiday as prescribed in Clause 1, Article 112 of the Labor Code, the employee shall be entitled to take a compensatory weekly day off on the next working day as prescribed in Clause 3, Article 111 of the Labor Code.
The Ministry of Home Affairs encourages employers to apply the Lunar New Year and National Day holidays in 2026 for employees as prescribed for civil servants and public employees. The State also encourages more favorable agreements for employees.
On the occasion of National Day, civil servants and public employees are entitled to 2 days off according to regulations, including September 2, 2026 and the day immediately preceding September 1, 2026. The whole country also implements the swap from working day Monday, August 31, 2026, to the weekly day off Saturday, August 22, 2026 (off Monday, August 31, 2026, and make up work on Saturday, August 22, 2026). Thus, along with weekly and public holidays, civil servants and public employees get 5 consecutive days off on this occasion. For employees in the business sector, the National Day holiday will be on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, and they can choose one of two days off: Tuesday, September 1, 2026, or Thursday, September 3, 2026. |
