On the afternoon of October 16, the Indonesian Football Federation (PSSI) announced that it had reached an agreement to terminate the contract early with coach Patrick Kluivert and his Dutch assistants.
In addition, U23 coach Gerald Vanenburg and U20 coach Frank van Kempen were also terminated, paving the way for a comprehensive revolution at all levels of the Indonesian national team.
PSSI's Instagram post attracted a large number of Indonesian football fans to interact. One fan excitedly commented: "This good news is no different from Indonesia winning a ticket to the World Cup." Meanwhile, others sarcastically said: "Come to work, go home, receive compensation, too easy for Kluivert."
Another fan said: "We made a big mistake by firing Shin Tae-yong and appointing Kluivert. He doesn't understand regional football." Another account wrote: "We are the losers in this risky gamble."
Although the decision to fire Kluivert was widely supported by fans, many people still questioned who would replace the former Dutch player to lead the team in the coming period. In the announcement, PSSI did not announce the identity of the interim coach, making the public even more curious.
Kluivert is a former Dutch and Barcelona football legend, but his coaching career in Indonesia has not left much of an impression after 10 months in the job. After 8 matches under Kluivert, "Garuda" won 3, drew 1 and lost 4 times.
