Established in 1993, the Center for Raising Children in Difficult Situations in Da Nang City (Lang Hy Vong) with operating funding from the East Meets West Organization (directed by the famous American writer Phung Thi Le Ly or Le Ly Hayslip), the Japanese Democratic Women's Association; since 2008, it has also been sponsored by Unilever Vietnam Company.
Recently, the People's Committee of Da Nang City issued Decision No. 1003/QD-UBND approving the acceptance of the non-project "Supporting the nurturing of children studying and living at the Center for Raising Children in Difficulty in Da Nang City" sponsored by the Vietnam Education and Social Assistance Foundation, with a total aid value of more than 748 million VND. The aid will be received and implemented until the end of June 2026.
After a long-term sponsorship period, the East Meets West Organization has contributed to helping nearly 1,000 students in the village grow up, many of whom were raised, educated from grade 1 to grade 12, learned a trade, and continued to be supported until they graduated from university, college, or secondary school.
Notably, in September 2025, Ms. Le Ly and the Global Village Organization mobilized domestic and foreign philanthropists to contribute nearly 900 million VND to build a dental clinic at Hope Village.
After being put into operation, the clinic has the accompaniment of Meritorious Doctor Pham Huu Loc, former Head of the Department of Dentistry, Da Nang C Hospital, students here are examined and have free dental care regularly 3 to 4 times a week.
At the clinic, children receive regular dental check-ups and care, helping to prevent tooth decay and dental diseases.
In particular, the program also focuses on the group of hearing-impaired students living at Hope Village, helping them receive more comprehensive care and health protection.

"As a doctor involved in many volunteer dental examination programs, I want to contribute my small part. Therefore, whenever I have free time, I come here to examine and take care of the children's teeth as a way to share love and bring more complete smiles to the children," Dr. Loc confided.
Discussing the dental examination activities for children at Hope Village, Director of the Center for Educating Children in Difficult Conditions of Da Nang City, Phan Thanh Vinh, said that many children here have tooth decay, but the center does not have the funds to take them for examination and treatment.
“Building a modern dental clinic with doctors to regularly check up on the children is a wonderful thing. I hope there will be more meaningful activities like this to help the children overcome difficulties and confidently integrate into the community,” Mr. Phan Thanh Vinh shared.

According to records on October 9, the classrooms of Hope Village are very hot even though there are ceiling fans. Studying in a stuffy school with such high temperatures affects the health of the children.
Sign language tape for the deaf, Huynh Thi Thanh Van (student of Hope Village) hopes that benefactors can support more fans or cooling devices to make the classroom cooler, because when summer comes, sitting in the classroom is very stuffy and uncomfortable.
The Global Village Foundation is a continuation of the East Meets West Foundation. These two NGOs have been working for the health of people in Asia and Africa for nearly 40 years.
Currently, Hope Village is raising 121 orphans, children with hearing impairments and children in especially difficult circumstances. Here, the children live in a safe, clean, green, happy environment, and are educated, trained in ethics and comprehensive life skills.
