Orphaned student raising 2 younger siblings burst into tears after receiving 170 million VND in help

On December 21, on behalf of Dan Tri readers, journalist Pham Tam, head of Dan Tri newspaper's representative office in the South, presented a plaque with the amount of 170,518,697 VND to Nguyen Trong Nguyen (22 years old, residing in Nga Bay ward, Nga Bay city, Hau Giang ). Nguyen is the character in the article "Father, mother, grandmother passed away one after another, male student shouldered the burden of raising two children", published on November 14.

This is the amount of money Dan Tri readers donated to support Nguyen's three brothers through the Charity Program. The entire amount has been transferred to Nguyen's account by Dan Tri newspaper.

Receiving the above amount of money, Nguyen was moved and expressed his thanks to Dan Tri readers and benefactors at home and abroad for their concern and help to help him overcome difficulties.

"In the past 4 years, my father, mother and grandmother passed away one after another. I studied and worked to take care of my two younger siblings. There were times when I felt tired and helpless because I had to worry about tuition and food. Every day was very stressful for me. Even though I was sick, I did not dare to give up.

Now that I have such a large sum of money, I don't know what to say other than my deepest thanks. I promise to keep the money, spend it sparingly on this precious gift so that I can raise my two younger siblings and ensure their education," Nguyen said, choking up.

As Dan Tri reported, at the age of 22, Nguyen lost his father, mother and grandmother. He became the breadwinner of the family, studying and working to earn money to support his two younger siblings.

Nguyen is a senior student majoring in Natural Resource Economics at Can Tho University. During his university years, Nguyen studied and worked part-time to earn money. When he returned home, he took care of his sick father, mother and grandmother.

His house is in Hau Giang but his school is in Can Tho . Every day, the student has to travel 70km back and forth.

Nguyen confided that when he was in his first year of university, he was lucky to find a part-time job at a pet shop so he could pay his tuition and take care of his family's food and living expenses.

"When my mother was sick, I was lucky to receive a scholarship because of my difficult circumstances, and was helped by a benefactor with more than 100 million VND. Thanks to that money, I had money to treat my father and grandmother...

But now I have no more money, so I try to work extra to make ends meet. When my grandmother passed away, I was devastated, but I didn't dare drop out of school because I still have two younger siblings," Nguyen confided.

Nguyen's two younger siblings are Nguyen Truong Thinh (class 6A4, Nguyen Du Secondary School) and Nguyen Hoang My (class 4A1, Tran Quoc Toan Primary School).

Knowing their family's difficult circumstances, Thinh and My both tried to study hard, cycled to school by themselves, and helped their brother with chores like sweeping the house, washing dishes...
