What's happening with Zidane's sons?

One has retired, one is working hard in the Second Division, one dreams of the World Cup with Algeria, and one is shining in the French U20 shirt.

More than two decades after Zinedine Zidane left the pitch, their Zidane story continues, with different chapters but sharing the same huge shadow.

Being the son of Zinedine Zidane - the legend who brought Real Madrid and France to the top of the world - is never easy. Talent, fame, comparisons, expectations... all weigh heavily on the four children: Enzo, Luca, Theo and Elyaz.

“It’s hard to be Zidane’s son,” France Under-20 coach Bernard Diomede once said. “The name is a legacy – both a source of pride and a burden.”

Now, each child has their own journey - bumpy, harsh, but not lacking in aspiration.

Enzo Zidane, the eldest son, was the first to step into the Real Madrid academy and once thrilled fans when he scored on his debut for the first team in the Copa del Rey. But after that, his career gradually drifted through Alaves, Switzerland, Portugal, France, and then Fuenlabrada - where he ended his journey before the age of 30.

The man who was once expected to inherit “Zizou” chose to stay away from the spotlight. Perhaps, in that silence is a weariness of carrying the Zidane name.

Zidane's sons still cannot escape the giant shadow of their father.

The second son, Luca Zidane, chose a different path: patience and perseverance. After years of training at Real Madrid, Racing Santander, Rayo Vallecano and Eibar, he became the goalkeeper of Granada, playing regularly in La Liga.

In October 2025, Luca officially debuted for Algeria - his father's mother's homeland. The North African team qualified for the 2026 World Cup, and Luca now dreams of participating in the world's biggest festival - a dream that his father made come true in 1998.

“Luca is not Zizou, but in the eyes of Algerians, he has Zidane's blood,” wrote Le Buteur .

Theo Zidane, the third son, quietly left Real Madrid in 2024 to move to Cordoba. He has played 43 games, scored 5 goals and had 1 assist. Without noise, without the pressure of fame, Theo is gradually finding balance - something his three brothers never had during their youth.

The most interesting story belongs to Elyaz Zidane, the youngest son of the family. At 19 years old, this young central defender is a mainstay of the French U20 team at the 2025 Youth World Cup. Not playing in the creative midfield position like his father, Elyaz chose the opposite path - building from the defense, from the quietest things.

“Elyaz is becoming a real man,” said coach Diomede. “He has composure and discipline – something that modern football needs.”

After leaving Real Madrid in early 2024, Elyaz joined Betis Deportivo and quickly matured. French experts called him "Zidane's last hope" - the one who can continue the legend with his own feet.

From Enzo to Elyaz, Zidane's four sons took four different paths - some left, some persevered, some still dreamed. But at every step, the shadow of their great father still loomed: a symbol of talent, courage and passion.

Zidane's story is no longer about succession, but a journey to find his own identity in the shadow of a legend. And who knows, in the not too distant future, Elyaz will make the world mention those two words - Zidane - with a nostalgic and proud smile.
