At Thong Nhat Stadium, the Vietnamese team had a hard-fought 1-0 win over Nepal in the second leg of Group F of the third qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup. Vietnam's only goal was counted as an own goal by Nepal defender Suman Shrestha.
Watching this match, expert Phan Anh Tu said that this was not a good match for the team, with the cause coming from unreasonable decisions by head coach Kim Sang Sik.
"Coach Kim Sang Sik made a wrong judgment and made the wrong substitution. In the first half, the Vietnamese team controlled the game. Mr. Kim only needed to make a few minor changes in the second half to sharpen the attack and make it easier to score. But the truth is that after making the substitution, the Vietnamese team lost control of the game and could no longer control the game," said expert Phan Anh Tu.
Accordingly, at the beginning of the second half, Mr. Kim Sang Sik took Hoang Duc off to rest and replaced him with Duc Chien. Then, at minute 60, he sent Dinh Bac and Hai Long onto the field to replace Van Vi and Thanh Nhan, before sending Gia Hung to replace Tien Linh at minute 70.
"Putting Duc Chien on the field to replace Hoang Duc made the Vietnamese team lack mobility and connection between the lines. We completely lost the midfield area to Nepal. Instead of attacking, we had to stretch ourselves to defend against the opponent's attacks.
Nepal deployed the ball very well, but because they did not have any outstanding players, they could not exploit the goal. They may have lost to Vietnam in terms of class, but in terms of game position, it can be considered that they won," expert Phan Anh Tu analyzed.
He continued: "When having to counter-attack, Coach Kim sent Dinh Bac and Hai Long onto the field to take advantage of the speed of these two players, but the field surface was now bad, with many puddles, so Bac and Long could not perform."
Mr. Phan Anh Tu also provided additional evidence to support his point of view, pointing out that the players on the Vietnamese team's field lack cohesion because not many of them get to play together at the club.
"When not playing together, the players' understanding on the field is very difficult. Many of our passes near the 16.5m area were out of sync. Coach Kim Sang Sik made the wrong judgment and made the wrong substitution. We need to frankly admit that although the Vietnamese team won, this was not a good match for us," expert Phan Anh Tu affirmed.
