'I want to hug my parents, hold the microphone and sing my favorite songs loudly'

The dream of the boy with crooked hands

Duy Quang was born with autism. congenital heart disease, Bilateral radius deficiency, bilateral forearm deformities , and absence of thumbs on both hands prevent him from performing normal activities.

A previous surgery   The surgery accidentally affected the growth plate, one of the two forearm bones could not grow longer, causing the arm to become increasingly bent and weak.

"He can't button his own shirt or pour himself a drink - things that are normal to other people are luxuries to him," Le Thanh Quy (Quang's father) sadly shared.

Having both arms deformed and a congenital heart disease, D uy Quang had to be hospitalized continuously for treatment, so even though he was 10 years old, he only weighed 20 kg. However, Quang is a polite and bright student. He is always optimistic and is a talented artist in the class. His homeroom teacher recorded some clips of Quang singing and shared them on social networks , attracting hundreds of thousands of views, comments, and shares. The online community was amazed by the boy's special voice and expressed admiration for his will to live.

Duy Quang has expressed his dream many times of being cured, growing up to be a singer, earning money to help his family raise his 3 younger siblings. Before Quang's dream, Mr. Le Thanh Quy could not help but feel heartbroken...

Opportunity to reach your dreams thanks to kind hearts

Although he is only a car mechanic in a poor rural area, Mr. Quy has never given up on his journey to find a cure for his son. Having suffered from poliomyelitis in his right leg since he was a child, he understands the difficulties his son faces every day.

In his journey to find an opportunity to straighten his son's arms, Mr. Quy accidentally learned about the FV Hospital 's Children's Step Up Fund , which supports the treatment of disadvantaged children. Filled with hope, Mr. Quy wrote a letter to the fund explaining his situation and feelings. Luckily, the fund accepted Quang's case and brought him to FV Hospital for treatment.

At FV Hospital, not only is Quang fully supported with medical expenses, he is also treated by Dr. Stéphane Guero - the world's leading hand surgeon.

"For children with a history of congenital heart disease, anesthesia cannot be maintained for too long. Therefore, everything must be absolutely ready, every moment must be carefully calculated. Just one small mistake can cost the whole team a life," Dr. Stéphane Guero assessed after examining Quang on May 14.

With the smooth support of the team, Dr. Stéphane Guero successfully performed surgery on Quang's right hand on May 20.

"We have put in a special frame to pull the bone out. Every day, the family will have to twist it a little, a quarter turn, to gradually pull the bone out. The expected distance is about 6 cm. Only 6 cm, but to the baby, it is a whole world," Dr. Guero explained.

In 6 months, if all goes well, the arm will be longer. Doctors will continue to evaluate and have a specialized treatment plan to help the arm become more flexible.

Hope one day soon...

"No one can say for sure about the final result, but I am sure it will be much better than when she first came to see me. I feel that it is a great reward for me to treat her," Dr. Guero expressed.

During his follow-up visit in early June, Quang happily ran around the hospital corridors with his parents, younger sister and the doctors and nurses. His cramped right hand has now begun to stretch out somewhat, enough for him to confidently raise his hand to wave hello to people or hug his mother.

It is expected that after Quang's arm is 6 cm long, Dr. Stéphane Guero will perform two surgeries on him: one to graft bone into the position of the lengthened arm and the next to convert the second finger into a thumb so that he can grasp.

Hopefully with the efforts of doctors , one day soon Quang will hold the microphone with his own revived hands and sing a folk song as a gift for the doctors and benefactors.
