After just 30 minutes at the Emirates, Odegaard suffered a pain in his left knee and was forced off early, replaced by Martin Zubimendi. The Norwegian international had previously expressed his desire to continue playing after receiving treatment on the pitch. However, just a few minutes later, he was unable to move freely and was forced to leave the pitch.
This was the third consecutive home Premier League game this season that Odegaard was substituted before half-time - an unprecedented feat in the history of the competition.
Odegaard's fitness was further questioned after he lasted just 38 minutes against Leeds United on 23 August, and was substituted in the 18th minute of the 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest on 13 September. A week later, the Norwegian also missed the 1-1 draw with Man City with a shoulder injury.
Not only Odegaard, midfielder Declan Rice also suffered an injury at the end of the second half. The former West Ham star had to leave the field in the 78th minute after receiving medical attention, making way for Mikel Merino. Before that, in the 38th minute, Rice opened the score for Arsenal.
The Gunners’ injury list is growing. Noni Madueke and Kai Havertz are still out, while Bukayo Saka and William Saliba have also missed some games due to fitness issues. Meanwhile, centre-back Piero Hincapie is also out with a groin injury.
