Da Nang warns of heavy rain and flooding in many places

On the morning of October 18, the Central Hydrometeorological Station reported that in some places in the North of Da Nang city, there was heavy rain, some places had very heavy rain, causing the risk of flooding in many areas.

Specifically, from 0:00 to 6:00 am on October 18, the total rainfall in some places was as follows: Suoi Luong 77.0 mm; Suoi Da 81.8 mm; Khe Can 81.0 mm; Hoa Khe 53.2 mm; Ho Thac Gian 42.8 mm; Da Nang 52.2 mm; Irrigation Sub-Department 58.4 mm; Cam Le 102.0 mm; Hoa Xuan 81.2 mm; Hoa Phat 77.0 mm; Hoa Quy 62.8 mm; Hoa Hai 69.8 mm; Dien Hong 58.2 mm; Ha Thanh Dam 61.8 mm; Ha Tan Bridge 43.8 mm; Dai Dong 95.0 mm; Dai Hiep 63.2 mm; Thang Binh 50.2 mm. Currently, the water level on the rivers is rising and below alert level I.

In the coming hours, the North of Da Nang city is forecast to continue to have rain, moderate rain and thunderstorms, with some places experiencing heavy to very heavy rain. Rainfall in the Northern communes and wards is generally from 30-60 mm, with some places experiencing over 80 mm. Due to heavy rain occurring in a short period of time over a large area, it is necessary to be on guard against flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas; and flooding in low-lying areas.

Wards and communes at risk of flooding include: Hai Van, Lien Chieu, Hoa Khanh, Thanh Khe, Hoa Cuong, An Khe, Cam Le, Hoa Xuan, Ngu Hanh Son, Dien Ban, Hoi An, Xuan Phu, Thang Binh, Thang Dien and Tam Ky. Flood depth is generally from 0.1 - 0.3 m, in some places it is higher from 0.4 - 0.6 m.

Flooding in low-lying areas and roads causes local traffic congestion, affects the movement of vehicles, damages buildings and people's property and impacts socio -economic activities. Therefore, people are advised to limit their movements when there is heavy rain and flooding.

To proactively respond to natural disasters, especially the risk of heavy rain, floods, inundation, flash floods, landslides and tropical depressions near the East Sea that could strengthen into storms, the People's Committee of Da Nang City has issued Urgent Dispatch No. 07/CD-UBND on proactively responding to natural disasters in the next 10 days and trends until the end of 2025. The People's Committee of the city requests departments, branches, sectors and localities to seriously implement previous instructions and disaster response plans in 2025.

Accordingly, all units must organize on-duty shifts, closely monitor forecast bulletins, and be ready to deploy prevention and control plans. Chairmen of People's Committees at all levels and heads of agencies are assigned the highest responsibility in response and overcoming consequences. Authorities need to prepare vehicles, focus on inspection, guarding, blocking, and resolutely prevent people from traveling and fishing in dangerous areas such as low-lying areas, coastal areas, areas at risk of landslides and downstream of reservoirs.

The telegram also specifically assigned units: Border Guard and Military to check boats and be ready to support rescue; Department of Construction to focus on flood prevention, tree support and traffic safety; Department of Agriculture and Environment to ensure the safety of dykes, irrigation dams; reservoir management units to inspect, monitor and operate according to procedures. At the same time, it is required to ensure absolute safety for people and property, especially at tourist spots, industrial production areas and construction works. Da Nang Electricity Company is responsible for ensuring electrical safety and supplying electricity to flood prevention pumping stations.

The City People's Committee requests units to urgently and seriously implement the contents of this telegram.
