Aiming to become the region's leading destination
Speaking at the workshop, Ms. Truong Thi Hong Hanh, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said that the city's tourism industry has for many years always played a leading role in the Central Highlands region, actively contributing to GRDP growth and creating jobs for workers.
After the merger of the boundaries, the tourism development space of Da Nang city has been expanded many times, creating conditions for the formation of a diverse product chain associated with the sea, culture, sports and high-class resorts. Da Nang aims to become an international tourism, conference and seminar center, a leading destination in Asia for resort tourism, entertainment and events.
"This is the necessary time to adjust the planning orientation for tourism development in Da Nang City to effectively exploit resources, promote traditional values, history and rich indigenous culture, build Da Nang into an attractive destination of the world, contribute to sustainable economic development and bring jobs to local people," said Ms. Truong Thi Hong Hanh.
Need to make good use of government mechanisms and policies
At the workshop, Mr. Nguyen Trung Khanh, Director of the National Tourism Administration, said that Da Nang has many advantages in terms of infrastructure, geographical location and human resources. The city needs to make good use of the Government's mechanisms and policies, and at the same time mobilize social resources, especially from businesses, to invest in developing high-quality tourism products; it is necessary to build a long-term strategy on promoting, advertising and developing international markets, especially prioritizing the markets of Northeast Asia, Europe and North America.
After the merger, Da Nang City has a great opportunity to become one of the leading tourist centers in Vietnam, playing the role of a national growth pole, a gateway to attract international and domestic visitors, spreading development throughout the North Central region - Central Coast - Central Highlands.

Mr. Khanh suggested that Da Nang City strengthen product development links with Hue and Quang Tri; develop heritage tours combined with nature exploration; promote the night economy associated with safe culinary, entertainment and recreation spaces; attract strategic investors in the field of sea tourism and high-end resorts; and target high-spending customer segments.
The Director General of the General Department of Tourism believes that developing the night-time economy and MICE tourism will be two important pillars to help Da Nang extend the length of stay, increase spending and create new vitality for the tourism industry in the post-merger period.
From an expert perspective, Associate Professor Dr. Pham Trung Luong, a member of the National Tourism Advisory Group, believes that Da Nang City has a "golden opportunity" to reposition and make a breakthrough after the merger. Accordingly, the city needs to reposition its tourism development strategy at the regional and international level, restructure its tourism products in a creative and different direction, and at the same time rebuild the destination brand image.
According to Mr. Pham Trung Luong, Da Nang was previously known as the leading event, creative and dynamic destination in the region, while Quang Nam was a heritage and green tourism destination. After the merger, it is necessary to integrate and promote both values in a unified strategy. "Tourism development is not only a service activity but also a comprehensive economic sector, connecting businesses with the community, creating a driving force for sustainable development for the locality," Mr. Luong emphasized.
