After merging with Bac Kan province, the scale of Thai Nguyen province's health system was significantly expanded, with more than 1.7 million people and 92 commune-level administrative units.

This event marks an important turning point for the local health sector, requiring not only the inheritance of a solid professional foundation but also meeting new requirements on scale, quality and equity in community health care.

One of the highlights of Thai Nguyen's health sector in recent times is the mastery and effective implementation of many specialized techniques such as reproductive support (IUI, IVF), cardiovascular intervention, complex surgical procedures, Phaco surgery, etc.

At the same time, provincial hospitals have also become satellite hospitals of the central level, contributing to reducing the load on large medical facilities, creating conditions for people to access high-quality services right in their localities.

Along with investing in infrastructure, Thai Nguyen is also a pioneer in digital transformation of the healthcare sector. Many hospitals in the province have deployed electronic medical records, electronic health records, remote consultation and examination.

The results of implementing the Government's Project 06 for the period 2022 - 2025 show clear changes: More than 4 million vaccination data have been updated into the national database system, nearly 4 million electronic health records have been integrated, and electronic prescriptions have been connected at 100% of public medical examination and treatment facilities.

In addition, solutions such as health insurance lookup via chip-embedded citizen identification cards and cashless hospital fee payments are also being promoted, helping to save time and costs for people and improve management efficiency. Thai Nguyen is currently also one of the leading localities in the country in terms of the number of electronic health records integrated on the VNeID application.

However, after the merger, the provincial health sector also faced many difficulties due to the difference in infrastructure, terrain and human resources between the two localities. While Thai Nguyen has more favorable conditions in terms of transportation and construction sites, Bac Kan has many remote areas with difficult transportation, causing obstacles in accessing health services.

Faced with that reality, the provincial health sector identified the urgent task of rationally allocating resources and increasing investment in grassroots health care, especially in difficult areas, to shorten the gap in service access and ensure fairness in health care.

The important driving force that helps the Thai Nguyen health sector overcome difficulties is the spirit of solidarity and responsibility of the medical staff throughout the province. The sector also always proactively coordinates closely with Party committees and authorities at all levels, making the most of resources from the Central Government and domestic and international organizations to develop the health network, especially focusing on the grassroots health sector.

On the basis of the merged health system, the industry is gradually perfecting the network in a synchronous and modern direction, focusing on preventive medicine and improving community health, while expanding high-tech services, aiming to build a modern, humane and sustainable health system.

In the coming time, Thai Nguyen Health sector aims to develop a smart, modern hospital system, connect medical data, improve the qualifications of medical staff, and have the capacity to compete domestically and regionally.

In addition, the industry will continue to promote the value of traditional medicine, harmoniously combine it with modern medicine, promote specialized training, appropriate recruitment and strengthen international cooperation, especially in the fields of technology and digital transformation.

Another major focus is to promote the application of artificial intelligence in diagnosis and treatment, perfect electronic health records, develop smart hospital models, and seamlessly connect medical data to improve the efficiency of universal health care.

The sector also clearly defines its responsibilities in ensuring health equity, narrowing the gap between regions, prioritizing care for vulnerable groups, and improving medical ethics and service spirit of medical staff.

With clear orientation, specific solutions and high political determination, Thai Nguyen Health sector is gradually realizing the goal of becoming a modern, specialized and close-to-people medical center, contributing to improving the quality of life and ensuring social security for people in the province and neighboring areas.

It is known that after merging with Bac Kan province, Thai Nguyen Health sector is currently managing 36 affiliated public service units and 280 commune health stations, which are assigned to medical centers to undertake professional work.

Expanding areas, increasing workload, and increasingly diverse service objects require the provincial health sector to have breakthrough solutions to improve operational efficiency. In particular, promoting the application of information technology is considered a strategic direction, contributing to comprehensively improving the quality of medical examination and treatment at all levels.

Currently, 100% of medical examination and treatment facilities from provincial to communal levels in Thai Nguyen province have applied medical information management software, allowing the transfer of medical examination and treatment data under health insurance accurately and on time. Digitalizing medical data helps improve management efficiency, make processes transparent, and facilitate patient treatment monitoring.

At Thai Nguyen A Hospital, the digital transformation process started quite early. As early as 2012, the hospital deployed the overall management software system HIS-LIS.

Next, many other technological solutions were also applied such as electronic hospital payment, digital signature, customer card... A series of professional and administrative management software such as outpatient and inpatient examination management, pharmaceuticals - medical supplies, hospital fees, testing, diagnostic imaging, pharmacies, equipment, human resources... were integrated, helping to simplify the management process, save time, reduce errors and increase service efficiency.

Not only stopping at technology infrastructure, the hospital also invested in a smart navigation system, wifi coverage throughout the hospital, installed an alarm system and internal applications exclusively for medical staff.

In particular, since June 2025, the hospital has put into testing a digestive endoscopy system integrated with artificial intelligence (AI), helping to increase diagnostic accuracy, opening up new steps in treatment and early disease screening.

Thanks to the strong application of information technology, since the beginning of the year, Hospital A has achieved positive results. The total number of medical examinations and treatments reached over 121,000, equal to 120.4% compared to the same period in 2024. The bed occupancy rate reached 114% of the annual plan, affirming the effectiveness of digital solutions in improving the quality of medical services.

At Thai Nguyen C Hospital, a provincial-level medical facility with 700 beds, the digital transformation process is also being accelerated. Since the beginning of 2025, the hospital has received more than 60,000 medical examinations. Along with infrastructure investment, this unit has deployed a series of modern software systems: overall hospital management, testing, diagnostic imaging, data connection with the National Health Data Portal and Health Insurance Payment Portal.

Patients coming to Hospital C can now make appointments via the fanpage, receive reminder messages, look up test results via phone, and pay hospital fees using QR codes, bank cards, or e-wallets. The simplification of administrative procedures has helped reduce waiting time, increase convenience, and bring a more satisfying experience to patients.

Notably, at the clinics of Hospital C, paraclinical results and diagnostic images are quickly transmitted between departments via the electronic system, instead of having to be printed and stored manually as before. This not only saves time but also contributes to limiting errors and improving accuracy in treatment.

Not stopping at improving professional processes, Hospital C also deployed internal digital signatures in signing prescriptions, medical records, reports, etc. to help reduce administrative workload, so that doctors and medical staff have more time to focus on professional work and patient care.

Promoting the application of information technology in the entire health sector of Thai Nguyen province not only contributes to modernizing infrastructure and improving operational efficiency, but also gradually builds a smart and synchronous health ecosystem, creating a solid foundation for the local health sector to achieve the goal of providing comprehensive, high-quality and fair health care to the people in the coming time.
