When most of us think of cruise ships, we imagine luxury vessels cruising the seas with breathtaking views, on-board swimming pools, restaurants, bars and luxurious accommodations. But operating these massive vessels is no easy task.
Recently, a video went viral online revealing the real scene on a cruise ship during stormy weather.

According to Cruise Critic, when a storm hits, the captain and crew will do their best to ensure the safety of the ship and passengers. In fact, most cruise ships can "escape" the storm, but passengers still have to face the rough waves.
A channel called "Days Out Worldwide," which often shares experiences about cruises and travel , posted a video showing the ship's swimming pool during a storm.
Although the pool was covered with protective netting, strong winds still caused water to spill onto the deck. Of course, in bad weather, passengers are prohibited from using the swimming pool and outdoor water park on the cruise ship.
According to a representative of the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), for CLIA and its members, the safety of passengers and crew is always the highest priority and the foundation of operations.
Despite the ever-increasing capacity of cruise lines, they maintain a safety record that makes cruise travel one of the safest forms of travel. In fact, cruising is safer than almost any other form of travel.
In fact, sea storms have become a nightmare for any passenger who encounters them.
A seemingly dream trip with 1,000 passengers on a cruise ship was attacked by a storm in the middle of the sea, injuring 100 people. It was a 14-day European journey of the Spirit of Discovery cruise ship departing at the end of October 2023, unexpectedly encountered bad weather in the Bay of Biscay - a part of the Atlantic Ocean, off the west coast of France and the north coast of Spain.
Due to the sudden arrival of the storm, the crew decided to abandon their planned stop and head for a safe port. However, passengers on board had an experience they will never forget. They described the 18 hours on board, witnessing waves up to 9m high tearing the side of the ship as the most terrifying moment.
According to Saga Cruises, about 100 of the 1,000 passengers on board were injured. Most of them were reportedly injured when the ship's safety system activated, causing the ship to suddenly turn and shake before coming to a stop.
As the ship rocked relentlessly for 18 hours, some desperate passengers wrote notes to loved ones in case they couldn’t get home. Other traumatized passengers wore life jackets for two days.
After the cruise ship safely docked, a representative of the cruise line admitted that this experience was "extremely frightening for passengers." In a letter to customers, Mr. Nigel Blanks said that there was compensation for mental damage for customers.
At the same time, this person affirmed that the cruise line always operates according to safety procedures, putting the health of passengers first. They will do everything to support customers to overcome the storm.
