Warm "moon season" on the border

In the chilly autumn weather, the moonlight of the 15th night of the 8th lunar month spreads throughout the mountains and forests of the Northwest, bringing the warmth of human love to children in the highlands, especially disadvantaged areas or the border areas of the Fatherland. In many highland communes of the province, the Mid-Autumn Festival is not only an occasion for fun, but also a festival of sharing, solidarity and kindness.

In Phong Hai commune, the outdoor stage at Regiment 254 was bustling with the sound of drums, songs and the colors of bright lanterns. More than 700 students from primary and secondary schools in the area participated in the joyful "Full Moon Festival".

This year's program took place with many exciting activities: lantern procession, performing arts, fruit tray display contest...

Each performance bears the mark of childhood, creativity and ingenuity of the children. At the program, more than 300 gifts were given to students in difficult circumstances, contributing to spreading love and adding motivation to go to school for children in mountainous areas with many difficulties.

Nguyen Thi Van Anh - a student of class 5A2, Phong Hai Primary School No. 2, emotionally shared: This is the first time I have had such a fun Mid-Autumn Festival. I hope that every year you will organize a Mid-Autumn Festival so that we can watch lion dances and lantern parades...

Ms. Tran Kim Thoa - Secretary of Phong Hai Commune Youth Union said: The program was prepared within two weeks, mobilizing more than 30 youth union members to coordinate with the Commune People's Committee and the Provincial Youth Activity Center to organize. In addition, 20 soldiers of Regiment 254 also participated in logistics support, security assurance and program coordination.

Not only in Phong Hai, many schools in the province's mountainous areas are also bustling to welcome the Mid-Autumn Festival. In Lang Nu village, Phuc Khanh commune - which suffered heavy damage due to storm No. 3, in 2024, the program "Full moon festival, lanterns light up dreams" brought a warm Mid-Autumn Festival atmosphere to 139 children.

The village cultural house suddenly transformed into a bustling “Mid-Autumn Festival street” with star lanterns, lion dances, fairy tales, and many gifts, school bags, lanterns and scholarships for children. This is part of the program “Lanterns light up dreams” directed by the Central Secretariat of the Youth Union and the Central Council of the Young Pioneers.

Hoang Gia Bao, a 3B student at Phuc Khanh Primary and Secondary School No. 1, happily shared: This is the first time I have held a star lantern and carried it with my friends. I wish that every year on Mid-Autumn Festival, I would have my older siblings come to organize fun like this.

Hoang Thu Que, a 3B student at Phuc Khanh Primary and Secondary School No. 1, said innocently: I received lots of candies, star lanterns and a new school bag. But I was happiest when I got to watch the lion dance and listen to fairy tales. This year's Mid-Autumn Festival was the most special for me.

Sharing at the program, Ms. Nguyen Pham Duy Trang - Secretary of the Central Executive Committee of the Youth Union, Chairman of the Central Council of the Young Pioneers expressed: Every look and smile of the children is the motivation for us to continue to nurture a safe, happy and loving childhood.

Although Lao Cai is one of the localities that has just been heavily affected by storm No. 10, the Youth Union at all levels in the province has made efforts to bring youthful energy, pioneering spirit and volunteerism to organize a warm and meaningful Mid-Autumn Festival program to many disadvantaged localities in the province.

Regardless of road cuts, harsh weather or limited material conditions, Youth Union chapters at all levels proactively coordinated with local authorities, armed forces and accompanying units to promptly organize Mid-Autumn Festival activities for children.

Sharing about this determination, Mr. Ha Duc Hai - Secretary of Lao Cai Provincial Youth Union said: We determined that the more difficult it is, the more effort we must make so that no child is left behind on this special occasion. For children in the highlands, each Mid-Autumn Festival is not only a childhood joy, but also a memory and a motivation for them to continue to excel in their studies.

This year, natural disasters have severely affected many localities, making organizing difficult. However, in the midst of hardship, the sense of responsibility and sharing of the youth union members has been promoted more strongly than ever.

“We mobilized all possible resources, from socialization to internal union strength. Thousands of lanterns, warm clothes, books, candies... were all prepared by young people with all their hearts. Each gift is not only material, but also the care and love that the community sends to children in the border, highland and difficult areas of the province."

We believe that, with the unity and pioneering spirit of the youth, all difficulties can be overcome. And this year's Mid-Autumn Moon, although not complete in material conditions, will be complete in human love"

Mr. Ha Duc Hai shared more.

It is known that, in addition to organizing the Mid-Autumn Festival, post-storm support activities such as cleaning up schools, supporting house repairs, encouraging students to return to school... have also been and are being synchronously deployed by the Provincial Youth Union.

Although the Mid-Autumn Festival in the highlands does not have lantern streets or modern playgrounds, it is still lit up by bright eyes, crisp laughter and kindness spreading throughout the villages. The star-shaped lanterns made by the members, the small gifts filled with affection..., all contribute to writing a meaningful "moon season" in the Fatherland's border.
