Dien Bien Trade Union Football Team had to travel nearly 500km, the farthest among the teams in the Northern region.
As the most remote team among the teams participating in the Northern Regional Qualifiers, the Dien Bien Trade Union team moved to Hanoi on September 30 to prepare for the competition.
It took nearly a day of travel for the Dien Bien Trade Union team to settle down in Hanoi. 20 members, including 14 players, departed at 6am on September 30, traveled nearly 500km, and arrived in the suburbs of Hanoi at around 6pm.
Sitting on a 29-seat bus from early morning to late afternoon, although tiring, is not "torture". The truly terrifying thing is experiencing traffic jams during rush hour in Hanoi, on the very day the capital was most severely affected by storm No. 10 on September 30.
Lo Van Tam (yellow shirt), a water plant worker for the Dien Bien Trade Union team, still went to practice despite being sick.
Heavy rain on the evening of September 30th forced the convoy carrying the Dien Bien Trade Union team to wait for... nearly 5 hours from 6pm to reach their accommodation. When the Dien Bien team arrived at the Vietnam Trade Union Hotel (Tran Binh Trong Street), it was 11pm. Hungry and tired, one of the team's players had a slight cold. He was Lo Van Tam, the youngest player of the Dien Bien Trade Union team (22 years old).
Mr. Lu Giang Nam, Deputy Head of the Dien Bien Trade Union, told Tuoi Tre : "Tam had to take flu medicine to quickly stabilize his health, before competing. We came here from far away, and really experienced many difficulties. We left early in the morning of September 30 and it was almost midnight before we could find a place to eat and stay."
In Hanoi, the Dien Bien Trade Union team only had 2 days to rest and get used to the weather and the field. On the morning of October 2, the Northwest team had a practice session at the Hanoi University of Science and Technology Stadium, where the 2025 Vietnam Workers and Civil Servants Football Championship Qualifiers took place.
The training session only lasted 40 minutes, but contained a lot of determination from the amateur players.
Head coach of Dien Bien Trade Union team, Mr. Nguyen Cong Hoan shared: "We are almost the weakest team in the tournament, with players from all walks of life, of different ages. However, with the attention of the leaders, the fact that the team was established to participate in this tournament is already very valuable. We are now ready to compete, and will try our best to pass the qualifying round."
In the qualifying round of the Vietnam Workers' and Civil Servants' Football Tournament 2025, Dien Bien Trade Union is in Group B with VPBank , Hung Yen Trade Union and Hanoi Trade Union.
At 7:30 a.m. on October 3, Dien Bien Trade Union played the opening match of the qualifying round with opponent Hung Yen Trade Union at Bach Khoa Stadium.
