According to statistics from the provincial Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, in this winter-spring crop, Hai Duong has 2,408 households leaving 128.8 hectares of fields unplanted, a decrease of 573 households and 45.1 hectares compared to the same period last year.

Kinh Mon town and Nam Sach district are two localities without abandoned fields. Tu Ky district has the largest area of abandoned fields with 57.3 hectares, followed by Thanh Mien district with 27.1 hectares, Chi Linh city with 25.3 hectares, Ninh Giang district with 20 hectares... Binh Giang district has the smallest area of abandoned fields with 0.5 hectares.

The area of abandoned rice fields in Hai Duong has been decreasing in recent years. In 2022, the whole province had about 300 hectares of abandoned rice fields, in 2023 it was 260 hectares and in 2024 it was 227.8 hectares. The decreasing area of abandoned rice fields is a very encouraging sign.

According to the reporter's research, in recent years, the price of paddy and rice has remained high and stable, many farmers borrow or rent fields from households that do not plant rice to concentrate on planting.

Mechanization in agricultural production is increasingly widely and comprehensively applied, which is one of the reasons why the area of abandoned fields in Hai Duong is continuously decreasing.

Mechanization in agricultural production is comprehensively applied to all stages from land preparation, sowing to care and harvesting rice, helping farmers save time and increase productivity and rice output. The internal traffic system is renovated and renewed to the far fields, making travel and production more convenient.

In addition, a group of freelance workers (construction, small businesses...) have less work than before so they have returned to the fields to cultivate. Many highland fields that have difficulty in irrigation have been switched from rice cultivation to vegetable cultivation.

Many localities have policies to support farmers with seeds, fertilizers, and biological products to help motivate farmers to produce. Party committees and authorities in some localities actively promote and mobilize associations and unions to borrow farmers' fallow fields for planting to raise funds.
