Under the revised policy, Singapore Airlines (SIA) has decided to stop serving hot drinks and meals when the seat belt sign is on.

Current crew policy to ensure cabin equipment and supplies are kept safe in adverse weather conditions will continue.

"Crew members will continue to ask passengers to return to their seats and fasten their seatbelts. They will also monitor passengers who may need assistance, including those in the lavatories," SIA said on May 23.

Additionally, flight attendants must also return to their seats and fasten their seat belts when the seat belt sign is activated.

"Pilots and flight attendants are aware of the dangers associated with turbulence. They are also trained to assist passengers and ensure cabin safety during the flight," SIA said.

SIA added that it will continue to review its procedures for the safety of passengers and crew.

SIA said the new regulation is part of a "more cautious approach" to dealing with turbulence on planes, following what happened to flight SQ321.

Previously, on May 21, flight SQ321 from London (UK) to Singapore, carrying 211 passengers and 18 crew members, encountered severe turbulence while flying over Myanmar and was forced to divert and land in Bangkok (Thailand). One passenger died and many were injured, some seriously, due to the incident.

On May 26, the plane that had an accident returned to Singapore after making an emergency landing in Thailand a few days ago.

Meanwhile, Thai authorities said today that 41 people injured on flight SQ321 are still being treated in hospitals in Bangkok, including 5 people in intensive care.
