Last week, a Reddit user named DakAttack316 shared about the iPhone 17 Pro Max in cosmic orange that turned to rose gold after only a short time of use.

According to MacRumors , more and more similar cases are being recorded. Some users of the iPhone 17 Pro and ‌iPhone 17 Pro‌ Max in cosmic orange have even been replaced with new devices due to the above error.

Posts on social media platforms like Reddit and TikTok say the color of the anodized aluminum frame on the ‌iPhone 17 Pro‌ and iPhone 17 Pro Max will change over time. The rear glass will retain its original color, while the aluminum rim and camera area will change to a rose gold tone.

In some cases, users reported that the space orange iPhone 17 Pro changed color after only 4 days of use. Notably, the device was always kept inside a transparent case from Apple.

According to some reports, the reason why the iPhone 17 Pro Max space orange version changed color is due to contact with solutions containing peroxide or prolonged exposure to ultraviolet rays.

Apple has coated the aluminum frame of the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max with a protective layer to prevent contact between the aluminum frame and the air. However, it is likely that this protective coating is not effective, causing the oxidation process on the aluminum frame to continue.

Additionally, if the iPhone 17 Pro shell comes into contact with certain chemicals, this oxidation and discoloration process can also be accelerated.

On the official website, Apple instructs users to wipe down the device with a solution of 70% isopropyl alcohol, 75% ethyl alcohol, or use Clorox disinfecting wipes to gently wipe the exterior surface of the iPhone.

Apple has yet to respond to any reports of iPhone 17 Pro Max color changes. However, some users said they had their devices replaced after inspection.
