Business Association contributes to the rapid and sustainable development of Can Tho City

At the working session with the Business Associations of Hau Giang Province (old), Soc Trang Province (old) and Can Tho City, Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Truong Canh Tuyen affirmed that the role of the Business Association is very important for the rapid and sustainable development of the city in the coming time.

On October 13, at the Can Tho City People's Committee Hall, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the Can Tho City People's Committee Truong Canh Tuyen chaired a working session with the Can Tho City Business Association.

Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Truong Canh Tuyen congratulated leaders of Can Tho City Business Association, City Women Entrepreneurs Association, City Young Entrepreneurs Association and business leaders on October 13 - Vietnam Entrepreneurs Day.

Listening to the functional sector report on the activities of the Can Tho City Business Association after merging Hau Giang and Soc Trang provinces into Can Tho City, the Chairman of the Can Tho City People's Committee shared the difficulties and problems with the leaders of the Business Associations in the work of perfecting personnel and merging the Association and the Can Tho City Business Association.

Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Truong Canh Tuyen affirmed that, with the central role and position of Can Tho City and having more than 20,000 enterprises and more than 80,000 business establishments, it is necessary to soon merge and consolidate the Can Tho City Business Association, because the Business Association plays a very important role in the rapid and sustainable development of Can Tho City in the coming time. Moreover, the consolidation of the Business Association is in line with Resolution 68 on private economic development issued by the Party Central Committee in the recent past.

Regarding the work of merging and perfecting the Can Tho City Business Association, Chairman Truong Canh Tuyen assigned the City Business Association to preside over the project and send it to the Department of Home Affairs on October 20.

Regarding the personnel issue (the position of Chairman of the Association), Mr. Tuyen requested the Association of Enterprises of the three former localities to propose a personnel plan for their units. After that, the City People's Committee will consider and, if it is beyond its authority, ask for the opinion of the City Party Committee; the City People's Committee will issue a decision to appoint the Executive Committee and the position of Chairman of the Association of Enterprises of Can Tho City in the period before the Congress of the City Association of Enterprises scheduled to take place in December 2025.

Chairman of the Business Association of Soc Trang Province (formerly) Tran Khac Tam shared: “When the Covid-19 pandemic occurred, businesses were facing many difficulties. In the past two years, businesses have just begun to recover and develop. And now, after the merger, Can Tho City has opened up a larger development space, so the early merger of business associations in the three old administrative units is extremely necessary, to connect the business community with city leaders to contribute to the rapid and sustainable development of Can Tho City in the coming time”.

Chairman of the Soc Trang Province Business Association (formerly) Tran Khac Tam hopes that the Can Tho City Business Association will soon be reorganized to operate more strongly and develop more.

At the meeting, the leaders of the Department of Finance said that Can Tho City, Hau Giang Province (old) and Soc Trang Province (old) all have Business Associations (with 841 members, of which Can Tho City Business Association has 558 members) and Young Entrepreneurs Associations (with 291, of which Can Tho City Young Entrepreneurs Association has 163 members). Can Tho City alone has an additional City Women Entrepreneurs Association, with 230 members.

Regarding the operations of Business Associations, they are facing difficulties in terms of office space, most of them rent office space. Operating costs are difficult, due to self-mobilization from members and membership fees, and have not received financial support from the City People's Committee.

Representative of the Department of Finance reported on the operation of Business Associations and Unions in Can Tho City after the merger.

At the meeting, representatives of the Hau Giang (old) Business Association, Soc Trang (old) and Can Tho City Business Associations jointly recommended that the Can Tho City leaders pay attention to, soon complete and merge the Executive Board of the City Business Association; pay attention to arranging a working headquarters and have additional support resources for the Association to operate, especially maintaining the Business Cafe model; training activities, sharing experiences of experts and managers for businesses on business administration, business promotion activities, etc.
