After Nepal's 0-1 loss to Vietnam at Thong Nhat Stadium on the evening of October 14, assistant Salyan Khadgi was the one interviewed instead of head coach Matt Ross.
Mr. Matt Ross also could not be present in the coaching cabin to direct the Nepalese players. The reason given by the organizing committee was that the Australian coach received 2 yellow cards and was banned from participating.
Assistant Salyan Khadgi said: "Nepal's tactics and fighting spirit today were all prepared by the head coach for the players. They played resiliently, causing difficulties for Vietnam.
As you can see, the match took place after a heavy rain. It affected both teams a lot. The Vietnamese team of course played well but we played with all our hearts."
"Initially we defended the space behind the defenders. However, the own goal forced the whole team to change and play an offensive game," Khadgi analyzed.
Assessing the group stage, Matt Ross's assistant said: "Vietnam is a worthy team and has many opportunities to continue to the 2027 Asian Cup. FIFA has not made a final decision yet, everything can be reversed, however, if using unqualified players, they can be eliminated."
Mr. Salyan Khadgi also said that if the team plays at home in Nepal, they will have better spirit. "If so, we will play clearly offensively," he said.
Thus, Nepal team is still at the bottom of Group F without any points. Vietnam team won 1-0 thanks to Suman Shretha's own goal in the 5th minute.
Coach Kim Sang Sik and his team are still ranked second in the table with 9 points, 3 points behind Malaysia.
