Conference to review work for the elderly in 2023 and deploy tasks for 2024

On March 12, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha chaired an online conference to review the work of the elderly in Vietnam in 2023 and deploy tasks for 2024. Attending at the provincial bridge were comrade Nguyen Long Bien, member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; leaders of relevant departments, branches and sectors.

According to the Vietnam Association of the Elderly, in 2023, the Association of the Elderly in provinces and cities organized nearly 2,000 training courses to improve professional skills for over 50,000 officials and members of the elderly. Elderly care work achieved many practical results with over 2.5 million elderly people being informed and disseminated about health care knowledge, more than 3.5 million elderly people having health monitoring records, 4.5 million elderly people receiving periodic health check-ups, 100% of elderly people having health insurance. Currently, the whole country has over 7 million elderly people directly participating in labor, production, business and nearly 80,000 elderly clubs at the grassroots level with many types of cultural, artistic, physical education and sports activities, attracting over 3 million elderly people to participate...

Concluding the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha suggested that in the coming time, the Vietnam Association of the Elderly and the Association of the Elderly at all levels should strengthen propaganda, political and ideological education, study and follow the example of Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style; continue to closely coordinate with relevant agencies to advise the Government to direct and soon issue the National Strategy on the Elderly in the new situation; continue to advise, propose amendments and promulgate policies to support the elderly in society to adapt to the current situation of population aging; summarize and evaluate the results of implementing the Law on the Elderly, submit to the National Assembly for consideration and amendment of the Law on the Elderly according to regulations; continue to promote the effective implementation of 3 key tasks, 3 major work programs, 2 tasks assigned by the Government; develop an action plan of the National Committee and a plan for the Action Month of the Elderly in Vietnam; Regularly organize conferences, seminars, and training courses on elderly care, build a fund for elderly care, and build an association and develop members to innovate operating methods and improve the quality of the association according to a unified model.
