On the afternoon of October 16, the Indonesian Football Federation (PSSI) announced that it had reached an agreement to terminate the contract early with coach Patrick Kluivert.

Coach Patrick Kluivert had to leave the Indonesian team early.

The move not only affects coach Kluivert at the national team, but also includes coach Gerald Vanenburg of the U23 team and Frank van Kempen of the U20 team. Thus, the entire Dutch coaching staff will no longer be in charge of the Indonesian teams at all levels.

PSSI expressed its appreciation for the efforts and contributions of the entire team throughout their tenure. The federation said the decision is part of a comprehensive review of the national football training and development program, aiming to guide the long-term strategy for the Indonesian teams.

According to the contract, Kluivert is with the Indonesian team until January 2027, with an option to extend for another year. That means PSSI will have to pay a large compensation.

Since taking over the Indonesian national team in January, replacing coach Shin Tae-yong, Kluivert has failed to bring the expected results to the "Tim Garuda". After 8 matches, the team has won 3, drawn 1 and lost 4 times.

Indonesia's dream of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup ended after a 0-1 defeat to Iraq on October 12 at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium. Zidane Iqbal's only goal in the 76th minute extinguished Patrick Kluivert's team's slim hopes in the Asian qualifying round.

Previously, Indonesia also fell 2-3 to Saudi Arabia, making them no longer have a chance to continue in the 4th qualifying round. Two consecutive losses caused a wave of disappointment to spread among fans, many people expressed their anger on social networks.
