The project contributes to expanding the area of flooded forests, combating climate change, neutralizing carbon emissions, and aiming for 1 billion trees by 2025 and achieving the common goal of Net Zero by 2050 that the Vietnamese Government is promoting.

Meeting with people who are devoted to the forest

For more than 20 years working in selecting, caring for and maintaining plants and the wetland ecosystem, Mr. Chau Phat - an officer of U Minh Thuong National Park (VQG) knows by heart every tree species, knows which trees are strong and which weak trees are easily "knocked down".

Mr. Phat enthusiastically passed on that experience to the J&T Express forest planting team. Because he knew that he and everyone else were doing something special, not only for the U Minh Thuong Forest Park, but further, more broadly, for the air that everyone here breathes every day.

“Today’s saplings will soon grow into a green, sturdy forest. Within 5 years, they will help absorb more than 120 tons of CO2e and after 10 years, that number can reach 240 tons,” Mr. Phat said with satisfaction.

Not only Mr. Phat, forest ranger Nguyen Van Chang (43 years old), who has been attached to the forest for many years, also had special emotions when witnessing U Minh Thuong "changing its skin", because it had to endure the wounds caused by harsh climate and humans.

Mr. Chang remembers clearly the forest fire disaster in 2002, when the "fire" devoured thousands of hectares of Melaleuca forest, burning down the thousand-year-old peat layer. Since then, he loves the forest even more, determined to protect the "green lung" of his homeland: "The forest is an invaluable resource for us, the people of the flooded area. I choose to stay with the forest for a living, but more importantly, I want to contribute my efforts to protect the forest to the end, to preserve it for future generations."

In addition, the activity also has the participation of local young volunteers. Hue, a 19-year-old girl in the group, said that recently, Hue often participates in forest planting campaigns for areas of eroded and depleted trees with the staff of U Minh Thuong National Park. However, the capacity is still limited because overall, the national park still has a lot of vacant land that needs to be cultivated.

"When I heard that a group from J&T Express was coming to plant trees, I didn't hesitate to join in. I'll help in any way I can, as long as it adds trees to the forest," Hue said.

For the people of Kien Giang in particular and the whole country in general, U Minh Thuong National Park is not only a "green lung" but also a unique land, bearing a strong historical and cultural mark. Therefore, the people here always want to restore the pristine beauty of the forest to bring long-term value to the environment and ecosystem. They are willing to join hands to cultivate and create strong forests to ensure a green environment and protect people from increasingly severe climate change.

Together we create a sustainable future

U Minh Thuong National Park is the 5th National Park in Vietnam to be recognized as an ASEAN Heritage Park. By planting 15,000 new Melaleuca trees in the 5th ASEAN Heritage Park in Vietnam, J&T Express and volunteers have together expanded the forest area for the environment.

This newly formed Melaleuca forest will contribute to protecting the soil, preventing erosion; and especially absorbing CO2 to help improve and balance the ecosystem. Information from the Center for Natural Resources and Environment Communication estimates that 1 hectare of newly planted Melaleuca forest will contribute to "locking" 120 tons of CO2e after 5 years, and 240 tons of CO2e after 10 years. This estimate is based on the results of studies on biomass, carbon absorption capacity and CO2e absorption of tree species compiled and conducted by the center.

Brand representative, Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan - Strategic Director of J&T Express Vietnam - said: "Today's forest planting activity is our joint effort with the big and long-term goal towards net zero by 2050. J&T Express is always committed to bringing the best value to customers and the community through continuing activities that demonstrate the spirit of social responsibility towards common issues of the country and the environment."

J&T Express representative said that in the next phase, the brand will continue to coordinate with the Center for Natural Resources and Environment Communication - Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to maintain care and monitor the development of the trees from planting to maturity. In addition, the brand also met, visited and gave gifts to local people and members of the Management Board who are carrying out the work of caring for and protecting the forest.

J&T Express's "Building the Future" journey in U Minh Thuong has temporarily ended, but the young cajuput trees continue to grow tall, covering a large area of forest, helping to improve the environment and people's livelihoods, promising a bright and sustainable future.
