The Gia Loc 220kV transformer station and connecting lines were completed and put into use, making an important contribution to supplementing power sources for development in the western Hai Phong region.

Energy infrastructure paves the way

According to statistics from the National Power Transmission Corporation, Hai Phong city is currently supplied with electricity from 4 220kV transformer stations with a total capacity of 1,625 MVA and 14 220kV loop-connected lines. However, the transformers at Dong Hoa 220kV Station are often fully loaded, especially during the peak summer months. It is forecasted that the city's electricity consumption will increase by an average of 10-12% per year in the coming period, when a series of new industrial parks and urban areas come into operation.

It is expected that in the next 5 years, Hai Phong city will continue to have 15 more industrial parks and 23 industrial clusters with a total area of over 6,400 hectares. Large industrial parks, such as Nam Trang Cat, Tien Thanh, Ben Rung, Lap Le, An Lao 2... will receive billions of USD in investment capital, requiring a stable power system with the ability to provide large and continuous capacity. In addition, new urban areas such as Bac Song Cam, Cat Hai island... are also developing strongly, leading to an increase in demand for electricity for daily life, lighting, services and commerce.

In the West Hai Phong area, electricity demand is also growing rapidly along with the speed of industrial development. Currently, this area has more than 20 industrial parks and clusters operating with a total area of over 2,000 hectares, of which many large industrial parks such as Dai An, Nam Sach, Phuc Dien, Cam Dien - Luong Dien... always achieve high occupancy rates. It is forecasted that by 2030, the commercial electricity output of the West Hai Phong area will also reach more than 10 billion kWh/year, nearly 2 times higher than at present.

In addition, the city is also promoting the fields of logistics, transportation and high-tech agriculture, increasing the pressure on the power infrastructure. In particular, Hai Phong is oriented to become the largest industrial and seaport center in the North, the "locomotive" of growth in the Red River Delta. With this goal, there is an urgent need to invest in modern, synchronous and sustainable high-voltage power projects to ensure energy sources for socio -economic development.

According to the leader of the National Power Transmission Corporation, investing in and constructing high-voltage power projects in Hai Phong is a strategic step, ensuring that the industrial development and urbanization process takes place quickly but still safely, stably and sustainably...

A solid stepping stone for development

Faced with the rapidly increasing demand for electricity, the Electricity sector has proactively deployed many large-scale, modern projects. The 220kV Duong Kinh transformer station, which was officially energized at the end of July, is of great significance in meeting the electricity demand for the southern part of the city. The station has a scale of 2 transformers with a total capacity of 310 MVA and has a reserve position for three other transformers in the following phase. Two 260 m long 220 kV double-circuit lines are connected to the existing Dong Hoa - Dinh Vu line. Mr. Hoang Van Tuyen, Deputy General Director of the National Power Transmission Corporation, emphasized: "The operation of the Duong Kinh transformer station not only contributes to reducing the load on existing stations but also increases the ability to meet the rapidly increasing load in industrial parks and new urban areas of Hai Phong. This is an important project in the strategy of ensuring energy security in the Northern Coastal region".

Then, on October 13, the Gia Loc 220kV transformer station and connecting line were also successfully energized. The station has a total capacity of 750 MVA, with two 500 MVA transformers installed in the first phase. The connecting line is more than 5 km long, connecting to the Hai Duong - Pho Noi 220kV line. The Gia Loc 220kV transformer station is an important intermediate node in the transmission system in the western region of Hai Phong. When put into operation, the station helps reduce the load on existing lines, improve stability and ensure safe power supply for industrial production, especially large factories in the area.

In the coming time, the National Power Transmission Corporation will accelerate the progress of the 500kV Hai Phong - Thai Binh transmission line project, a special-grade energy project, starting construction in August 2025. The line is 38.3 km long, of which 20.4 km passes through Hai Phong and 17.9 km through Hung Yen province. The project plays an important role in transmitting stable and reliable electricity to the 500kV Hai Phong Station, meeting the load demand of the Northern region.

Despite facing many difficulties due to storms and obstacles in site clearance, contractors still mobilized maximum human resources and equipment to ensure progress. According to General Director of the National Power Transmission Corporation Pham Le Phu, the entire construction force was required to "promote the spirit of overcoming the sun and rain", ensuring quality, safety and completing the project in 2025.

For Hai Phong, the completion and operation of 220kV transformer stations and 500kV lines will help the city meet the electricity demand of new industrial zones, reduce the load on the existing system, and create conditions for the development of services, logistics, urban areas and seaports. When the projects are completed, the Hai Phong area's power system will always have a safe reserve, ready to respond to any incident situation. This is an important criterion to attract large-scale industrial projects, especially FDI.
