How to drive back to the city after Tet to avoid traffic jams?

Báo Giao thôngBáo Giao thông13/02/2024

On February 13, Hanoi City Police predicted that on the 4th and 5th days of Lunar New Year, many people and vehicles will return to the city to start working and studying.

Therefore, the Traffic Police Department will concentrate forces to regulate and guide traffic at all gateways and main traffic routes, ensuring smooth traffic.

To ensure a safe and convenient journey from the countryside back to the city after Tet, Hanoi Traffic Police advises that personal vehicles should leave early and avoid leaving at the same time between 8am - 10am and 2pm - 4pm. These are two time frames where traffic jams often occur.

Traffic police recommend that people say no to alcohol when going out to celebrate the New Year.

Before departure, drivers need to carefully check vehicle safety, schedule routes to travel to the city center; choose suitable routes. During the trip, they should also update traffic conditions to be able to change the route.

When traveling on national highways, expressways, inner-city roads, routes leading to and from Hanoi and related localities, all drivers must strictly comply with traffic safety and order laws.

For those who travel by bus or public transport, they should book tickets early to avoid the situation of sold out tickets and having to catch a bus along the way. This violates traffic safety and also risks the bus company increasing the ticket price and overcharging passengers.

Traffic police also remind people to stay in the correct lane and road section; drive at the permitted speed; carry the correct number of people; and when encountering traffic congestion, stay calm and comply with the traffic flow instructions of the police.

In particular, traffic police recommend that drivers who have drunk alcohol should not drive to ensure safety for themselves and other road users.

According to the Hanoi Traffic Police Department, from February 8 (December 28, Quy Mao year) to now, through patrolling, controlling and handling violations, the unit has detected and handled more than 600 traffic violations.

Of which, the authorities punished nearly 300 cases of alcohol concentration violations; detained over 300 vehicles, and revoked driving licenses of more than 100 cases.
