First maxillofacial trauma surgery in Con Dao

The patient with maxillofacial trauma was examined and operated on for the first time at the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center. The surgery was performed today, October 10.

On October 10, a working group from the Central Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology in Ho Chi Minh City, led by Dr. Huynh Van Duong, Deputy Head of the Department of Maxillofacial Surgery, as the main surgeon, successfully performed surgery on a patient with maxillofacial trauma at the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center.

Previously, on October 6, patient V.D.Q (39 years old, in Con Dao special zone) had an accident that broke his facial bone. Immediately after the accident, the patient was examined and given first aid by doctor Nguyen Hoang Viet Hung, who was on rotation duty in Con Dao.

Following that, the Central Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology in Ho Chi Minh City organized a remote consultation with the Military-Civilian Medical Center of Con Dao Special Zone to assess the patient's condition, agree on treatment methods, especially surgery for the patient right in Con Dao.

After consultation, the leaders of the Central Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology in Ho Chi Minh City decided to send a surgical team fully equipped with specialized equipment and tools from Ho Chi Minh City to Con Dao.

Previously, doctors at the Central Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology in Ho Chi Minh City had a remote consultation with doctors in Con Dao to calculate a surgical plan for patient V.D.Q.

Thanks to the synchronous coordination between the medical team of the Central Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology in Ho Chi Minh City and the doctors at the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center, the surgery was successful.

According to doctors, this is the first case of maxillofacial trauma that was examined and operated on right at the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center. This coordination helps patients recover quickly, reduces travel time and costs; showing the effectiveness, practicality and correct objectives of the Program "Improving the quality of medical examination and treatment activities for the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center in the period 2025 - 2030" that the Central Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology in Ho Chi Minh City is implementing here.

At the end of September, the Central Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology in Ho Chi Minh City implemented a school dentistry program in Con Dao; trained teachers and medical staff on school dentistry; signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Central Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology in Ho Chi Minh City and the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center on the school dentistry program following the school-station model and oral health care for the elderly, period 2025 - 2028, towards sustainable goals.
