Boat capsized while fleeing flood, 2 people in Nong Cong commune drowned

Currently, the authorities are trying to find the remaining victim. The incident happened at around 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm last night (September 29), in Lang Tru village, Nong Cong commune, Thanh Hoa province.

Local people said that at the above time, Ms. Tham in Lang Tru village, Nong Cong commune, along with her mother, Mrs. Toi (80 years old), and her son, Tin (26 years old), took a private boat to Van Thien - Ben En road where relatives were waiting to move to higher ground to avoid flooding.

Mrs. Toi's body has been found.

However, when they had gone more than half way, only about 200m from Van Thien - Ben En road, due to strong currents, the boat capsized. Luckily, Ms. Tham was able to cling to a nearby tree and was saved. Ms. Toi and Mr. Tin drowned during the night. This morning, Ms. Toi's body was found. Authorities are trying to find the remaining victim's body.

The location of the drowning victims is about 200m from Van Thien - Ben En street.

A leader of Nong Cong commune said that currently, villages and hamlets in the commune have been isolated by water, all travel must be by boat.
