Before metro line 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) officially opens at the end of 2024, Ho Chi Minh City has planned to organize bus routes, shuttle buses, bicycles and build parking lots, pedestrian overpasses... to connect with the metro.
Convenient for people
According to Giao thong Newspaper reporters, in mid-November, along metro line 1, inside the underground and elevated stations, signs and ticket purchase instructions have been installed. Nine pedestrian overpasses connecting the stations are basically completed. The city also organized parking lots to facilitate people to use the service.
Ben Thanh Station is the "heart" of metro line 1, near 23/9 park, so passengers can park their motorbikes and cars to easily access the metro.
The Ho Chi Minh City Public Transport Management Center said that it is expected that there will be 61 bus routes connecting the metro stations when put into operation. In addition to buses, Ho Chi Minh City also has 43 bicycle stations, with two more locations expected to be added on the sidewalk of Pham Ngu Lao Street (at the bow of the ship) and the sidewalk of 23/9 Park.
Among the 61 bus routes connecting to metro line 1: Ben Thanh Station (27 routes); City Theater Station (1 route); Ba Son Station (6 routes); Van Thanh Station (3 routes); Tan Cang Station (13 routes); Thao Dien Station (10 routes); An Phu Station (7 routes); Rach Chiec Station (7 routes); Phuoc Long Station (6 routes); Binh Thai Station (9 routes); Thu Duc Station (6 routes); High-Tech Park Station (9 routes); Suoi Tien Station (12 routes); Eastern Bus Station Station (10 routes).
In addition, Ho Chi Minh City has a plan to use shuttle buses to transport passengers to and from 5 inter-provincial bus stations in the city.
"I think the metro line is not only a transport project but also the pride of the city. A developing city needs modern means of transport to improve its appearance, reduce traffic jams and bring convenience to people," said Ms. Nguyen Hoang Anh (53 years old, living in District 1).
Meanwhile, Mr. Tran Minh Tuan (35 years old, living in Thu Duc) hopes for the effectiveness of metro line 1: "Hopefully the metro line will partly solve the traffic jam problem. However, for the metro to operate truly effectively, the connection with other public transport needs to be implemented synchronously."
Ready for official operation
These days, when people in Ho Chi Minh City walk along Vo Nguyen Giap Street, crossing the Saigon Bridge, they can see metro trains running continuously. Urban Railway Company No. 1 (the operator of the line) said that from November 11 to 17, the unit tested the line at 100% capacity.
Long Binh Depot of metro line 1, this is the end of the line, is the repair service station of the entire line.
15 trains run continuously from morning to night with a minimum frequency of 4 minutes and 30 seconds, each train has a maximum capacity of 930 passengers. Technical systems such as rails, signals, electricity and air conditioning are strictly inspected, accompanied by close supervision from the engineering team.
Emergency scenarios such as power outages, train stops or evacuations were also thoroughly rehearsed to ensure safety. At the same time, staff at Metro Station No. 1 were mobilized to assist passengers, handle unexpected situations and provide instructions on how to use the utility system at the stops.
"At this point, we can confidently confirm that metro line No. 1 is ready for official operation," said a representative of Urban Railway Line No. 1 LLC.
