The incident then escalated into a riot with fights between fans of the two teams spilling out onto the field.

According to CNN Indonesia, the CEO of PSIS Semarang Club, Mr. Yoyok Sukawi, was hit in the head by a foreign object thrown by a fan of the visiting team PSS Sleman, requiring 8 stitches.

After the incident, PSSI and the Liga 1 organizing committee issued a notice to tighten all security measures. In particular, an absolute ban was issued on fans bringing sharp objects into the stadium, and on hanging flags and banners with offensive slogans. Or on songs with political colors, attacking opposing fans. In addition, the acts of lighting flares, shining laser lights... were also absolutely prohibited.

Next, PSSI soon announced the decision to severely punish PSIS Semarang Club to set an example, which is to play in empty stadiums until the end of the 2023 - 2024 season. The Indonesian Liga 1 season ends in April 2024. Therefore, with PSSI's disciplinary decision, PSIS Semarang Club will suffer a lot of financial losses when losing a lot of revenue from ticket sales at home.
