Federation of Thai Journalists visited and worked at Tien Phong newspaper

At the meeting, journalist Le Xuan Son - Editor-in-Chief of Tien Phong Newspaper introduced to the delegation the history of formation and development of Tien Phong Newspaper. Accordingly, Tien Phong Newspaper was born in 1953, in a forest in the North, is the newspaper of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, the voice of the Youth Union and Vietnamese youth. Tien Phong Newspaper has always received great attention from the Party and State leaders, who have visited, written letters of encouragement and directly participated in the newspaper's events.

Also according to journalist Le Xuan Son, after 70 years of development, Tien Phong Newspaper now has 250 people, with 30 focal points including departments, offices, and representative offices across the country. Every day, the printed newspaper is still printed at 5 locations nationwide. In addition, the newspaper has a number of specialized publications for different age groups, such as Hoa hoc tro, Thien Than nho, and other irregular publications.

Along with that, Tien Phong Electronic Newspaper was born in late 2004, early 2005, and is now a fairly developed newspaper, in the top 10 electronic newspapers with the most readers in Vietnam.

"We are having active solutions to promote the development of electronic newspapers and the key task in the near future is to develop electronic newspapers into the main newspaper to replace the previous role of printed newspapers," journalist Le Xuan Son shared.

In addition, Tien Phong Newspaper also has two other electronic publications, namely Vietnamese Students and Hoa Hoc Tro. The publications Hoa Hoc Tro, Thien Than Nho and Vietnamese Students are from the former Vietnamese Students Newspaper, which were merged into Tien Phong Newspaper...

Editor-in-Chief Le Xuan Son said that Tien Phong is also the first newspaper in Vietnam to establish a company alongside the newspaper - Tien Phong Joint Stock Company, which mainly does business in the fields of bookstores, cultural products and participates in other important activities of the newspaper.

Every year, Tien Phong Newspaper organizes on average 40-50 events, of which 10 are the biggest. Among them, the Vietnam Young Talent Support Fund has the task of discovering, nurturing, and caring for young talents, especially those in difficult circumstances; every year the fund selects 10 outstanding young Vietnamese faces.

The Red Sunday voluntary blood donation activity, founded by Tien Phong newspaper 15 years ago and carried out annually, is one of the three largest voluntary blood donation movements in Vietnam today, organized in 50 provinces and cities, receiving 50-60 thousand units of blood each year, contributing to spreading the spirit of voluntary blood donation to many people across the country.

Tien Phong is also the first newspaper in the North to be economically independent since 1974. Tien Phong started as a newspaper of the Youth Union and Vietnamese youth, and during the development process also became a highly appreciated political and social newspaper.

Sharing at the meeting, Mr. Chavarong Limpattamapanee congratulated Tien Phong Newspaper on its upcoming 70th anniversary; he also expressed his impression of the newspaper with its dynamism and autonomy, in which Tien Phong e-newspaper is one of the 10 most read and most prestigious newspapers in Vietnam. He also expressed his impression of the transformation, making e-newspapers become the "locomotive" to replace printed newspapers - which are facing many difficulties not only in Vietnam but also in Thailand.

12 years ago, he was also one of the people who gathered online journalists in Thailand, established the Online Journalists Association, to protect their journalism copyright, and set out regulations that anyone who used information or articles without permission would be sued.

At this meeting, delegates also shared and exchanged experiences as well as development trends of the press, especially whether the printed newspaper format will survive or disappear in the future.

Regarding this issue, delegates also said that currently, print newspapers are facing many difficulties in Thailand, many newspapers have had to completely convert to electronic newspapers and are still "living off the income from the newspaper".

However, there are also delegates from Thailand who still believe that printed newspapers will not disappear in the future. “When touching a newspaper, smelling the paper will give a special feeling instead of skimming through information on an electronic newspaper. Maybe in the future, the reader trend will return to the style of reading printed newspapers,” a delegate in the delegation shared.

At the end of the working session, the delegation visited Tien Phong Joint Stock Company and the reporter room at Tien Phong Newspaper headquarters.
