Author Le Xuan Son: A typical writer representing the intersection between journalism and literature

On October 9, in Hanoi , the Writers Association Publishing House and Tien Phong newspaper introduced three books : "I have been a city person for a long time," "White clouds still float," and "Like the water of the Me River" by journalist and poet Le Xuan Son, former Editor-in-Chief of Tien Phong newspaper.

Reading Le Xuan Son's new book series, one can recognize him as one of the typical writers at the intersection of journalism and literature, where events and people are viewed through the prism of culture and history, and filtered through a sensitive, easily moved and empathetic soul.

The book “I have long been a city person” is a collection of poems with a calm tone of reminiscence and contemplation. In which, the most important part is the nostalgia of a rural person who has long been away from his homeland, now looking back with nostalgia mixed with anxiety. From memories of the village, the river, the fields, to the changes in the pace of urban life, the poet realizes the distance not only of space but also of the soul, between the “old person” in himself and the “new person” living in the city.

Besides that nostalgic vein, the collection of poems also expands to contemporary inspirations: the Fatherland's sea and islands, the living environment, epidemics and the fluctuations of today's social life.

If the book “For a long time I have been a city person” is an introspective journey, then the book “White clouds still fly” is an outward journey, searching for and recreating the images of talented people in the Vietnamese cultural space. The book includes memoirs and portraits of more than 20 writers, poets, painters, and musicians from Trinh Cong Son, Phu Quang, Quang Dung, Huu Loan, Duong Bich Lien, To Ngoc Van, Diem Phung Thi, Le Ba Dang, To Hoai, To Huu… to Ho Xuan Huong, Dang Tran Con…

The third book, “Like the Water of the River of Delusion,” opens up a wider space. This is a collection of essays, notes rich in literature and documents about 11 of the countries the author has had the opportunity to visit, spanning the continents of Asia (Japan, Laos), Europe (Russia, France, Germany, England, the Netherlands), North America (United States), South America and the Caribbean (Cuba, Ecuador).

At the launching ceremony, Tien Phong Newspaper Editor-in-Chief Phung Cong Suong expressed his emotion and pride when journalist Le Xuan Son gave him three books at the same time, a rare event in the journalism world.

He was particularly impressed with the poetry of author Le Xuan Son because the verses were rich in imagery, imbued with the sound of the homeland and filled with humanity.

“In many years of working, it is rare for a writer or poet, right after 'leaving the office' (retiring), to be able to publish three publications at the same time. That shows a process of persistent, serious and powerful work of Mr. Son,” said Mr. Phung Cong Suong.

Sharing about the three books, writer Nguyen The Ky, former member of the Party Central Committee, Vice Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council said: “The fact that Le Xuan Son released three works to readers at the same time really surprised and excited me. If the two works 'Like the Water of the River Me' (travel diary), 'White Clouds Still Fly' (memoir, literary portrait) are a mixture of literary and journalistic qualities or journalistic and literary qualities, bearing the mark of the energetic, experienced, sharp, and emotional journalist Le Xuan Son, the poetry collection clearly shows a poet Le Xuan Son of the countryside, fields, customs, and practices of Thanh land, always yearning for his homeland, parents, friends, and poor life in the countryside…”./.
