“Superfoods” top the world rankings
Not only a familiar fruit, avocado ( scientific name Persea Americana ) is known as a "superfood" because it contains nearly 20 vitamins and minerals, including potassium, lutein, folate, vitamin E, fiber and healthy fats.
Low in sugar but rich in essential nutrients, avocados offer a host of benefits for the heart, vision, bones, joints and immune system.
In the list of 20 best foods to include in your daily diet published by the prestigious British culinary website – Good Food – avocado is ranked number one. Avocado surpasses many other famous foods such as eggs, garlic, pomegranate or watercress.

According to reviews, avocado is a rich source of monounsaturated fat, vitamin E, folate, soluble fiber and minerals such as potassium, copper, iron... which play an important role in supporting cardiovascular, nervous and immune health.
Many scientific studies have shown the positive effects of this fruit. Avocados contain omega-3 fatty acids, phytosterols, beta-sitosterol and vitamin E which help control inflammation, lubricate joints, reduce pain and slow bone loss.
Avocado oil has also been shown to help reduce symptoms of osteoarthritis. The fat and fiber in avocados help you feel full longer, curb cravings, and reduce subcutaneous fat, especially in the abdominal area, while the low carbohydrate content helps support effective weight loss.
For the cardiovascular system, avocado stands out thanks to its high potassium content, which helps regulate blood pressure and reduce stress on blood vessel walls.
Oleic acid in avocados reduces inflammation in the heart and blood vessels, while beta-sitosterol maintains good cholesterol levels and improves blood lipid levels. Regarding vision, lutein and zeaxanthin in avocados protect the eyes from harmful UV rays, reducing the risk of macular degeneration.
Meanwhile, healthy fats aid in the absorption of fat-soluble nutrients such as beta-carotene and vitamin A. Avocados also contain a rich amount of fiber, which helps improve digestion, prevent constipation, reduce the risk of colon cancer and aid in the absorption of anti-cancer carotenoids when eaten with red and orange fruits and vegetables.
Vietnamese avocado: Abundant, cheap, stable quality
Not only is avocado highly valued in the world, but it also has a great advantage in terms of supply and price. Thanks to the tropical climate and fertile soil, this tree is widely grown in the Central Highlands provinces such as Lam Dong, Dak Lak, Dak Nong, etc. with high productivity and stable quality.
During the harvest season, avocado prices in many localities are only a few tens of thousands of VND per kilogram, significantly lower than the prices in Europe or the US. This makes it easier for domestic consumers to access and include avocados in their daily menus, from salads, smoothies to weight loss menus.
With outstanding nutritional content, abundant supply and reasonable price, avocado is gradually becoming a regular choice of many Vietnamese families.
Nutritionists recommend that to maximize the value of avocado, it should be eaten fresh or combined with other foods rich in vitamins and minerals. Although it contains healthy fats, it is still necessary to pay attention to the moderate use of avocado to ensure energy balance and maintain long-term health.
