Animal husbandry is one of the main economic development directions of the people of Ta Ca commune, Ky Son highland district, helping many families escape poverty and become rich. Mr. La Kham Hung's household in Canh Vay village raising black pigs and mountain goats is a typical example. Photo: HT

Mr. La Kham Hung grows more than 4 hectares of bananas on the mountainside right behind his house. Banana trees are very suitable for the soil and climate here, so they are green and produce ripe fruit all year round. Mr. Hung finds that feeding ripe bananas to livestock is not only nutritious, but also increases the resistance and deliciousness of the meat products when sold. Photo: TP

The animals have become accustomed to being fed bananas and often follow their owners up the mountain to get food. Photo: TP

Goats and black pigs are fed ripe bananas once or twice a week. “Goats and pigs love ripe bananas. Especially baby goats grow very quickly when they eat ripe bananas,” said Mr. La Kham Hung. Photo: HT

Mr. La Kham Hung boldly borrowed capital to buy black pigs, goats, and local cows to develop livestock farming. From the initial small capital, the livestock gradually multiplied, after more than 2 years he had a solid economic foundation with a herd of over 30 goats, a herd of 60-100 local black pigs, both for meat and breeding. In addition to feeding ripe bananas to goats and pigs, Mr. Hung also shared the "secret" to keeping livestock healthy, growing quickly, having high resistance, and having few diseases is to feed them with medicinal forest leaves such as feeding goats with wild neem leaves, feeding pigs with bear bile leaves... Raising pigs, cows, and goats brings him an annual income of over 100 million VND, making him a "millionaire" farmer and a sustainable escape from poverty. Near Tet, Mr. La Kham Hung said that his family's black pigs are "sold out", with nothing to sell because they were all ordered by customers more than a month ago. Normally, he sells black pigs for 100,000 VND/kg of live pigs. Near Tet, the price increases to 150,000 - 200,000 VND/kg of live pigs, but there are still no pigs to sell. Photo: HT
