Product diversification
Realizing the importance of agricultural processing, in recent years, Lam Dong has made systematic planning and investment steps, from the scale and level of agricultural processing technology to the replication of post-harvest center models. Thereby, applying advanced processing and preservation technology such as: freeze-drying, quick freezing, color classification, ensuring the quality of agricultural products after harvest.
Enterprises also focus on applying advanced quality management processes such as HACCP, ISO, Halal, to meet increasingly stringent market standards. Up to now, the whole province has 2,699 establishments and enterprises participating in the chain of preliminary processing and processing of agricultural, forestry and aquatic products, of which 563 are enterprise-scale establishments. The target by 2025 is that the proportion of processed agricultural products is estimated to reach 24.39%.
Not only focusing on promoting the processing of traditional agricultural products, the province also encourages product diversification, exploiting the maximum potential of each crop. Coffee, durian, dragon fruit, macadamia, cashew, pepper, seafood... are key products that are deeply processed, creating many value-added products.
Typically, in addition to familiar products such as coffee beans and ground coffee, Lam Dong has a facility to produce high-quality instant coffee, meeting the increasing demand of the market. The whole province also has 41 facilities for processing durian with a processing capacity of 87,555 tons/year. Durian is processed into frozen segments, durian ice cream, expanding the consumption market. Dragon fruit is processed into dried dragon fruit, juice, wine, candy, syrup... with many unique flavors.
Lam Dong’s processed agricultural products have been exported to 56 countries and territories, affirming their quality and reputation in the market. These figures show that Lam Dong is on the right track to increase value and effectively exploit the potential of the land rich in agricultural products.
There are still many challenges.
In addition to the achievements, Lam Dong agricultural processing industry still faces many challenges. Among them, the processing technology of Lam Dong enterprises is still backward compared to that of developed countries. Many facilities still use manual technology, the production scale is still mostly small, making it difficult to meet the quality and quantity requirements of large markets.
The agricultural value chain from production to processing and consumption still lacks connectivity. Processing enterprises have not really connected with farmers, have not built stable, high-quality raw material areas, leading to a shortage of raw materials, unstable prices, affecting production and business efficiency.
To overcome these limitations, Lam Dong needs to continue investing in modern processing technology, improving production capacity, diversifying products, building brands, promoting trade, and expanding consumption markets.
Agricultural processing is an inevitable way to increase the value of agricultural products. However, to be successful, it requires continuous efforts and innovation of the whole system, from the State's policies to the actions of each enterprise and individual. It is expected that in the coming period, Lam Dong's agricultural processing industry, with its increasingly larger potential and scale, will have breakthrough developments, contributing to increasing the value of agricultural products and promoting rural economic development in the new era.
