A little-noticed feature on the Galaxy S24 Ultra is the latest Corning Gorilla Armor glass protecting the display, which significantly reduces reflections and improves visibility.
However, it seems that the Galaxy S24 Ultra's screen is not completely perfect, as many users have reported that the anti-glare glass on this device has not maintained its quality over time.
YouTuber Zaryab Khan shared on social media X how the Galaxy S24 Ultra's screen coating degraded after a year of use.
Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra screen has many stains after less than 1 year of use.
It's easy to see that the Galaxy S24 Ultra's display is prone to smudges and fingerprints. The constant swiping seems to have worn away the oleophobic (fingerprint-resistant) coating on the device, giving the screen a dirty, greasy look.
Additionally, users have also noticed scratches on the screen. However, they explain that these are not actual scratches but could be blemishes on the screen coating.
X user Piyush Baid also shared that the screen coating on his device has worn away, which makes the Galaxy S24 Ultra look dirty and difficult to clean.
Piyush complained that the store blamed the usage for making the screen look so "damaged".
In addition, he also disagrees with the solution of applying tempered glass to protect the glass surface, because this will significantly reduce the effectiveness of the anti-glare coating.
Another user also showed that the most frequently swiped part of the screen (right corner) showed signs of wear and was noticeably shinier.
The part of the screen that is exposed the most is noticeably shinier and more worn.
So what’s the real problem? It’s possible that the oleophobic coating on the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s display has worn off within a year of the device’s launch. While the coating on all smartphones degrades over time, it’s rare to see such rapid deterioration in less than a year.
The "fake scratches" also confuse users, because it seems that the oleophobic coating is physically impacted by sharp surfaces, but does not damage the actual screen.
It's not yet clear how this degradation affects the display's anti-glare capabilities, but it's clear that the dirty and greasy look detracts from what is otherwise an excellent and segment-leading experience from Samsung.
These are just a few of the reported cases, and many other users on Reddit say their Galaxy S24 Ultra devices have held up much better. However, the fact that this issue is happening to a certain number of people is unacceptable for a high-end flagship that costs over $1,000.
The advice given to users from Samsung's official social media accounts is to contact Samsung directly to provide details about the situation.
